    Lyle and John - Acoustic

by J50Jeff on 2017-03-11Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver, BC Canada

Lyle Lovett is one of my all time favourite performers. His shows with his large band are amazing (they are a tight band!), but I prefer the solo, acoustic setting. Lyle and John played for 2-1/2 hours taking turns playing songs. John accompanied Lyle on many of his songs, adding harmony and lead guitar, and Lyle harmonized with John in some of his tunes. Their stories and bantering were fun and added to the show. My wife and I had a wonderful time. This was our 7th time seeing Lyle (combination large band; as a foursome with John, Joe Ely and the late, great Guy Clark; and duo with John), and they were all great performances. We'll be seeing him again when he returns to Vancouver! Thank you Lyle and John for a fabulous evening!

You could try a little harder.

by DDDDDan on 2017-03-10Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Shrill and soulless - I have been a fan of both of these guys for twenty-five years or more but this show was a real disappointment. They were going through the motions.

Great Songs and Banter with Lyle and John Hiatt

by 4219 on 2017-03-10Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The show consisted of Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt just sitting together on stools with a variety of guitars beside them and conversing as they played a perfect mix of their best known songs and new and lesser known surprises. Hiatt was at his guitar playing best on this night and his hard driving style was the perfect complement to Lyle's easy country jazz style. But what was as great as their music was the relaxed and easy banter that the two carried on between the songs. Very dry and clever wit between the two that made the audience feel that they just happened to be sitting in a living room or a studio where two good friends were jamming and sharing humor and stories about their songs. It made for a very easy, relaxed and memorable evening's entertainment.

Good show, loved the dialogue between Lyle & John. 2.5 hour show. So rare these days to get that.

    Bad Sound Mix

by Gunther on 2017-03-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

My experience was not good, the sound was so loud and distorted, and even painful. It took away from the joy of hearing Lyle.

    Lyle Lovett...John Hiatt.....quite a pair!

by mooselebo on 2017-03-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

It had been quite a number of years since we first saw Lyle and we had never seen John Hiatt live. My wife and I had always told friends what a great show Lyle put on, in part due to his incredibly dry sense of humour. It's still there. And now he has brought a friend! The dry banter between them was ALMOST as good as the tunes! If you like singer songwriters....go see these guys if you ever get the opportunity!

Dynamic Duo Spreads the Good Word(s)

by Smokedmeat1 on 2017-03-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

The Queen E Concert by Mr's Lovett and Hiatt was an intimate evening - sorta like sitting around the campfire Lyle talked about between a couple of songs. They we're playing not just songs from a deep repertoire but with each other and letting everyone in on the jokes. Their facial expressions we're priceless. As for the music, well there was a whole lot to like. John Hiatt, perhaps being more appreciative of his likely smaller fan base made sure to do his mighty trio of best known songs, Memphis in the Meantime, Cry Love (with wonderful reinforcements from Lyle) and of course the anthemic Have a little Faith in me. Lyle comfortable with his place in the music firmament did not feel much compulsion to do his "hits" but indeed did do If I had A Boat, perhaps his best known piece. Everything he does is either very very good or great as far as I and may others there are concerned. I did miss my fav -This Old Porch- he has not sung that in Van in his last 3 concerts here -maybe next 1!

Lyle and John an Evening with Old Friends

by JakeFromVan on 2017-03-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Just one of those wonderful evenings when the lucky audience got to share 2+ hours with two old friends swapping songs and telling stories. Of course when the two old friends are music legends the evening is just that much better.
