About

After forming in 1961 in Chicago, Illinois, while in high school, Styx steadily toured and expanded from a three-piece to a quintet during the 60s, signing with local record label Wooden Nickel Records in 1972, and releasing their self-titled debut that year. 1973’s Styx II and The Serpent Is Rising followed, as well as 1974’s Man of Miracles, further refining their output as they transitioned from straight-forward rock n roll into a more progressive rock, incorporating psychedelic flourishes and experimental structuring, as well as hard rock guitars, powerful ballads and theatrical elements. They signed with A&M Records, releasing Equinox in 1975, and subsequently 1976’s Crystal Ball and 1977’s The Grand Illusion, their breakout album that sold over 3 million copies propelled by singles Come Sail Away and Fooling Yourself. In 1981, Styx released Paradise Theatre, a concept album chronicling the fictional rise and fall of the Chicago theatre, which became their fourth consecutive triple-platinum album, reached #1 on the Billboard charts, and spawned five singles, including top ten hits The Best of Times and Too Much Time on My Hands. Next was 1983’s full-fledged rock opera Kilroy Was Here, which featured synthesizer and vocoder-driven Mr. Roboto and the power ballad Don’t Let It End. Following a half-decade separation in the 80s and a brief break-up in the 90s, Styx’s 1996 tour Return to Paradise was a success, and since then have continued releasing albums and satisfying ticket holders at concerts around the world with the likes of Def Leppard, Foreigner and Boston.

Foreigner and Waite were great - Styx not so much

by Jacy on 2024-07-04Budweiser Stage - Toronto

I have seen Foreigner a few times and they are still great! I had only seen John Waite on YouTube and they were very good. I wasn't thrilled when Styx came on as their sound was not great - kind of a mushy 'wall of sound' , unlike Foreigner & Waite where each instrument and the vocals were quite clear. Fortunately they came on last, so we left after a couple of songs. Bud Stage was quite clean and the staff were very proficient and friendly. The food was ok but the beer very expensive!

    Always a great fun show!!

by Aunty Mitch on 2024-06-24Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Styx always impresses me with how they can wind up a crowd. It was a great choice to open with John Waite and then Foreigner. I had my appendix removed a week before but was dancing for Styx’s entire show, I couldn’t sit down l, not just dancing or swaying, dancing like a crazy person! Definitely non surgeon approved 😂. I’ve seen them before and will see them again!

    Fabulous as always

by Kimike on 2024-06-21Budweiser Stage - Toronto

I’ve seen Styx perform half a dozen times over the years. They always put on a great show. Gowan is a fantastic addition to the band. He has a great voice and so much energy. Styx never disappoints.

    the Good Old Days

    by Ole'Rocker on 2024-06-20Budweiser Stage - Toronto

For the last 2 years I seen Styx and Foreigner Come thru headlining there own shows and now for the 3 rd year they come together, Wow what a fantastic show from Start to finish. back in my youth I have seen each of these bands separately when they were up and coming so to see once again them live was very thrilling and rewarding. My only regret as it is for others is knowing that this was the final time to see Foreigner come to Toronto. Thank you so much for all the great music you have produced and played live for all your fans to enjoy ,. You will missed truely.

    Another phenomenal show

by Bree on 2024-06-20Budweiser Stage - Toronto

From the first cord, to the finally, what an absolutely spectacular show. Only caught the last few songs with John Waite which were great. Foreigner as with every other concert I have seen, was like listening to their albums. Such high energy, amazing crowd interaction, and just an all out wonderful experience. STYX took the stage, and they blew every expectation, from start to finish, still one of my favorite bands.

Bringing me back to my youth

by Greekmanic on 2024-06-18Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Wonderful experience and wonderful memories of the music I grew up listening to daily. John Waite was a great starter, Foreigner and Styx blew the roof off. I like the short lines for beverages, (prices seem a little high for drinks but expected). That little bridge to get to the Go station was a hazard and a huge bottleneck.

    absolutely awesome

by Christine R on 2024-06-18Budweiser Stage - Toronto

This was my first time seeing Styx I was not disappointed, they sounded great the setlist was bang on I could have listened to them all night. Love this band grew up listening to them but had not had the opportunity to see them so this was a TREAT for me and they did not disappoint. Gowan was great although I hoped for Dennis De Young it was still awesome. There are so many venues they could fill this was a great night, weather was bang on and so was the SOUND...loved it :) Hamilton has a great theatre great acoustics ;) Christine

    Great show!

by Naro on 2024-06-18Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Was a great show. All three performances had great sound and great performances. Didn’t have to wait long for a bathroom or drinks, but drinks were a little pricey. Transportation after the show was hard to come by and very expensive.
