Tyler Oakley is an award-winning YouTube personality and advocate for LGBT youth who has amassed millions of devoted subscribers and social media followers. Oakley grew up in Jackson, MI, and made his first YouTube video in 2007 while studying communications at Michigan State University. His videos began as a way to keep in touch with friends but they quickly attracted a variety of viewers throughout the world. By 2011 he was a full-fledged star -- after graduating in 2011 he moved to Los Angeles and became an in-demand on-camera personality. He's interviewed everyone from One Direction to Michelle Obama, and hosted red carpets at award shows including the MTV Video Music Awards and the Kids Choice Awards. As an openly gay man, Oakley has also become an influential spokesperson for The Trevor Project, an organization that provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention for LGBT youth. 2014 was Oakley's biggest year to date -- he was named one of The Advocate's 40 Under 40 Emerging Voices and racked up several awards, including the Streamys Audience Choice Entertainer of the Year and two Teen Choice Awards for Choice Male Web Star and Choice Web Collaboration. He also launched the podcast Psychobabble, an unfiltered gossip session that debuted at No. 1 on iTunes.
