Vancouver Whitecaps FC History
The Vancouver Whitecaps may have only joined MLS in 2011 (alongside the Portland Timbers), but the team has a long history in the Pacific Northwest. The Whitecaps first launched in 1974 as a member of the now-defunct North American Soccer League and moved to the Canadian Soccer League in 1986 as the 86ers. The team would remain as the 86ers until 2000 when the Whitecaps name resurfaced as part of the A-League, which would later become the United Soccer League (USL).
Finally, on March 18, 2009, the Whitecaps were introduced as the newest franchise in MLS, where they would keep the Whitecaps name as part of the United States' top division. The club qualified for their first playoff run in 2012, becoming the first Canadian MLS franchise to do so. Meanwhile, the Whitecaps have claimed the Voyageurs Cup at the annual interleague Canadian Championship in 2015, 2022, and 2013 and count 2013 MLS Golden Boot winner Camilo Sanvezzo among their alumni.

Great experience, I always enjoy Whitecaps home games. However, BC Place did not accept cash anywhere in the stadium, not being able to use cash was bunk.
We had high hopes for our first experience at a Whitecaps game. I will refrain from commenting too much on the level of the game play itself was. What really was disappointing is the greed from the arena itself. The parking lots near by have a $13 sign for until 6am parking, but on event day it’s $25. Then if you happen to bring a bag that doesn’t fit into their small box they hold when you go to enter the arena, you have to pay $10 for them to hold your bag hostage. My purse would have sat on my lap, as it always has, every other time I’ve gone to BC place prior to the pandemic. WHAT A JOKE! So before you even step into the arena you’re in for $35 plus the price of your tickets. Save your money, watch the premier league at home.
great stadium, great staff, great game. a fantastic experience.
Over priced empty stadium. Is a bad buissness model. How bout make it more affordable and fill the seats. There wasn’t even 10k people. No atmosphere no fun.
It costs way too much for a drink like beer at the BC place stadium. the prices are above the average minimum wage for one drink. Its ridiculous gouging the sports fans like this. My mate Dave who likes to drink a lot was so angry that he refused to buy a drink for the whole game. This is outrageous at a WC game with the only positive effect that he did not have to go to the actual WC until the end of the game, though it was apparent by his gnashing of teeth and wailing that he was deeply upset. really need to so something about this..like 50% off for a start
Crazy price for beer. Dwarfs price at the Fairmont Vancouver Upscale Lounge, post US Customs post-clearance lone pub and Rogers Arena. Three times price of drink special at Original Joes short blocks away - plus poured correctly, served to a comfortable table seat quickly, with a smile, and not a line in sight. $10 to check in a “man purse” containing just an iPad. Give me a break. Speaking of iPad - need to turn on it on for security reasons. Seriously? Product on field - just fine once out of bad mood from items above. Dave.Frank@Me.com
Assuming you actually want the truth, even if it doesn't fit your your bias or ideology; I will tell you as per your request what I actually thought. I thought the Whitecaps game was waaayyyy to woke. Pandering to the neo Marxist version of feminism and to homosexuality does not appeal to me and the pro-homosexual and pro-abortion commercials and seeing the team players on side running around in pink caused me to root for Nashville.
+Really good DJ + Great stadium with many restaurants + Friendly and Helpful staff - Boring game and atmosphere - Price could be even little smaller - 25 CAD - Ticketmaster Fees - Tickets only for mobile, it’s not PDF
Too bad the crowd was so small. Super entertaining game. Well played by the home squad. Gauld was a beast. Probably the hardest working player out there. YVR is missing out.
Nice and good match yo visit when's you are a soccer fan and are visiting Vancouver! Everything is arranged very good and really a great trip for a family.
Game was excitng, venue perfect and decent parking
It was a spur-of-the-moment decision to go to the Whitecaps—Colorado game during the heatwave; our first game. We bought great seats and had a wonderful time. Check-in was smooth and the fact that Vancouver won added to the excitement.
Great experience. Had a great time with the fans around me, no long waits for anything and the game was great! Definitely will be back for more!
Game lacked atmosphere. Queues to drinks and food stands were very long and very slow. Some not properly staffed which meant that waiting times were minimum 15 mins. Not acceptable!
It was an amazing atmosphere. The only downside was all the food lines were so long, I missed 20 minutes to get a simple lemonade.
Half price all drinks was a blast. Great atmosphere. Whitecaps played hard and won the cup. Good coaching .
They took forever to score until the very end, not worth it in my opinion
The evening was overall a lot of fun. Family friendly event that was really entertaining.
Its was a great experience in the stadium. Of course I’ll get another ticket to get back there
Really enjoyed my first visit. Very organized and easy to find your gate and section. Inside you have a good variety of food, snacks and drinks but the performance of the teams, especially the home team were lacking/missing. One of the poorest football game I ever watched, if not the worse for a “professional” league.
