Everyone - especially those who are lucky enough to never experience war or being a refugee - should see this. Ahmad communicated so much using so little, which makes Adrenaline very impressive, and also very accessible from a time and financial commitment perspective. A fancy set up isn’t necessary with a talented and creative actor like him. But of course it’s not all acting, because unfortunately his pain is real, and represents the millions of individuals in his past and present situation. When we can’t see or feel it, it’s easy to forget about this pain that some of our neighbours carry, so Adrenaline encourages empathy by creating an impactful memory. There are also numerous aspects of the main character’s life that are familiar to Western audiences, reminding us that refugees and immigrants are not “other”.
This is a one-actor play but the performance is terrific! It is about feelings and sensations of loneliness, trauma, sadness, hopelessness... All related to the war and its consequences. It is very short though (about 40 min), so that many aspects of the war in Syria and the exile are not touched.
An amazing performance about a difficult, heartbreaking story. I hope the NAC hosts the companion piece "Suitcase".
VERY INTERESTING. WE REALLY LOVED IT. THE SONGS. THE GESTURES, THE VOICE ETC
Perfect choice by NAC Venue and staff are as always amazing. The show was priced well, located in suitable room. The show is just perfect. Actor, sound engineer and technicians are all wonderful.
Highly creative, intensely human, and very moving.
Very engaging stage performance with a unique setting and creative use of props. It is very moving – I actually was crying at one point – and keeps you riveted until the end.
A powerful play about the experience of one refugee in a new home. Gain a new perspective and get to know Jaber. Beautiful and touching.
