About

With the release of Love Ritual in 2010, soul singer and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Al Green reminded the world exactly why he so richly deserves legendary status. Featuring a remix of retro hits and rare tracks, Love Ritual is a nostalgic predecessor to his 2008 album Lay It Down, which featured a collection of earthy, soul-infused songs epitomizing his iconic sound from the past four decades. Green's concerts feature a mix of old favorites as well as new, contemporary takes on classics, and fan excitement runs high during his intense, bluesy riffs and highly charged vocal improvisations. Lay It Down spawned a major European tour, with ticket holders thrilling to the singer’s low-and-smoky take on “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?,” as well as his gospel-powered romance anthem, “Let’s Get Married.” His newest release follows similarly with throbbing, gutsy vocals and pulsating rhythms.

As much a showman as a singer, Green entered the performing arena during the 1960s, emulating the singing styles of heroes Jackie Wilson and Sam Cooke. Green hit the charts with “Tired of Being Alone” and his slow, sexy sound and charismatic interpretive style catapulted him to R&B royalty. After the platinum “I’m Still in Love with You,” Green produced a string of hits, including the iconic “I Feel Good” and fan favorite “Let’s Stay Together.” By the 1980s, Green made ministry a primary focus in his life but still found time to stay on top of his R&B career — Rolling Stone magazine included him on its list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Today, the Reverend Green is a fully ordained pastor who continues to go on concert tours whenever possible. With the release of Love Ritual, a new generation can experience the thrill of listening to one of the world's greatest R&B musicians.

    Al Green wonderful as expected

by ksallym on 2010-11-08Casino Rama - Orillia

The man, himself, was just terrific! I have a few complaints about the venue, though. Mr. Green was late to stage (no fault of his own) We were not seated and had to stand almost an hour. Also, no encore. That surprised me.Other than that; we had a superb time!

    Al Green Charmer!

by Ceebs on 2010-11-08Casino Rama - Orillia

This concert, although almost an hour late was a lot of fun and a trip down memory lane. Anyone born in the 50's was in LOVE with Al Green in the 70's. Al and his daughters did an amazing rendition of AMAZING GRACE to the point of religious fever. Fantastic. If he comes back to RAMA or Toronto, GO SEE!

like aged wine, but cut short

by Howe on 2010-11-08Casino Rama - Orillia

The Rev. Al Green was perfection as expected and sung with a voice that can only be described as a wonderfully aged bottle of wine. That being said, the performance started well over half an hour late, and I think that Casino Rama cut the performance short because some of the audience had to catch the bus back home. You could feel the disappointment in Al's face as he left the stage. And much of the audience felt short changed. I suppose that is one of the issues with having the venue over 2 hours away from the major metropolis.

    Veeeery Disappointing....

by Globram on 2010-11-08Casino Rama - Orillia

This was the first time I saw a show at Rama and I just love Al Green. I would definetely tthing twice before seeing another show there. After driving for 2 hrs, the show was 1 hr late in starting because the band was held up at the border and Al made sure we all knew about it. He went on and on about this. Again, I repeat, I just love Al Green but he did more talking than singing. Then around 11:15 I thought, o.k. this is party time....he finishes the song and walks off and didn't even come back. I found that very insulting to his audience. This was very unprofessional. Then after trying to get out of the parking lot (about 1/2 hr), another 2 hr drive home. A wasted night for sure.

    AMAZING!

by Tboxe on 2010-11-08Casino Rama - Orillia

Al Green was simply amazing to see live. He is still going strong with no end in sight. He performed an energy filled 2 hours straight. Would see him again. Casino Rama thought could work on their organization of the event, it was suppose to start at 9:30 didnt start until 10:30, we were left standing in the halls for 30 mins.

We enjoyed Al Green's show from the start to the end. It just could be longer. A live show is a live show. You can appreciate his great voice, personality, the music and sound. Not to be missed.

    NOT WHAT I EXPECTED

by Glojones on 2010-07-31The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - Windsor

I have loved Al Green;s music all my life. I talked about seeing him so much, my co-workers got sick of hearing about him. The concert lasted 75 minutes. H sang a few songs of other artist, tidpits of some of his. flirted and gave hugs to the women (who went up the the stage and sang to short. Otherwise, the music was good.

    Yes! Al Green!

by zedellen on 2009-08-30The Tulalip Amphitheatre - Tulalip

This man is a natural born performer! I'd never seen him in a live show before, but you can bet I'll go again should the opportunity come. He has such charisma and energy and really pulls the audience into the show. The outdoor theatre is great! (Thank goodness it wasn't raining, but even if it was, it would have been worth it) The sound was excellent. Everyone working their was courteous. I love that some of his family was in the show, too! Everyone was up and dancing, pretty much. Those in their chairs were swaying along.

Great venue on a clear summer night!

by MotownFan on 2009-08-29The Tulalip Amphitheatre - Tulalip

I`m a 30-something Motown Fan and loved seeing Al Green live. It was a beautiful clear night and made for a great show. The crowd was a mix of people from 20 year olds to 60 year olds. Cool! The value for the price of the ticket (approx $35 or $40USD) was great and the show was worth it. The venue was convenient located next to the Tulalip Premium Outlet Mall, which gave a great opportunity for some pre-concert shopping. Ample parking. And the option of going to the casino afterward added to the whole ``evening out`` experience. (Just saw Smokey Robinson at the Deerlake Blues Festival, in Vancouver, BC (aka Burnaby, BC). That festival was AMAZING! For $15 CDN it was such a deal for a whole day of performers. Smokey was a better then Al Green, re his energy and the show he put on. Would see Smokey before Al, but both were good.)
