    Generosity

by KLib on 2016-03-08National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The Alex Cuba concert at the NAC was wonderful. Alex Cuba is an enormously talented, engaging, warm, and generous performer, backed up by a very competent band. He played mostly songs from his latest album Healer and they are/were great. The venue was small and intimate, perfect for Cuba's style of music, and it allowed him to establish a real connection with the audience. All in all a wonderful concert.

Latin energy had us dancing in our seats!

by Kikikenis on 2016-02-01Arden Theatre - St Albert

My face hurt from smiling so broadly throughout the show. Alex Cuba was personable, entertaining and talented. I took my husband who also agreed how amazing he sounded for being live. Alex Cuba's band was well rehearsed; they were thrilled to be there playing alongside him. Even if you don't understand Spanish the riffs were catchy and the musicianship phenomenal. Alex Cuba did every song on his new album which was impressive because many songs were duets. I recommend this concert to everyone, not just Latin lovers. It was fresh, interesting, enjoyable, and intimate.

    Engaging, memorable, loaded with entertainment!

by MonyMo1 on 2013-03-17Festival Place - Sherwood Park

The venue was perfect! It almost felt like it was a private concert. The audience was engaged and this also has to do with the size of the venue. It was elegant, private, comfortable, just perfect! Alex had an amazing performance, voice and sound were unbelievable.

    Alex Cuba was Awesome!

by Ottdragongirl on 2012-11-04National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I have enjoyed Alex Cuba's music for a while, first introduced to him on CBC Radio 2. I subsequently bought a number of his albums on Itunes. I enjoy the vivacity, rhythm and smooth vocals of his music. It is happy, danceable music. I have wanted to see Alex Cuba in performance for a few years now and was very happy to do so at the NAC Fourth Stage in Ottawa. What a wonderful, intimate performance venue. Great sound. Alex did not disappoint. He is backed by superb musicians on bass and drums and is a wonderful performer and musician. His vocals are superb, smooth and strong. He connects very well with the audience. A completely wonderful musical experience, even if you don't understand a word of Spanish. My only regret re the 4th stage is that there is no dance floor because it is hard to keep still when Alex is playing.

    Awesome show, great venue!!

by Anonymous on 2011-11-03Park Theatre - WINNIPEG

The Alex Cuba show at the Park Theatre on Monday was more than I expected. I only knew one Alex Cuba song going in and his style was not what I expected at all. I was expecting more of a straight forward Latin show, but he mixes everything up. Some songs were pretty funky, others had a caribbean feel, some with an African flair, but all had that distinctivelty latin flavour to them. He's a good entertainer and kept us guessing what styl;e the next song was going to take. The band, a trio, Alex an guitar, bass palyer and drummer (sorry guys, don't remember your names) did well to pace the music and took every cue from Alex, having fun and enjoying themselves the whole time. I commented to my wife that he's going to be amazing when he's in his 60's. Once he fully develops his own cohesive sound, there'll be no stopping him. Not meant as a detractor, it works now, but once he makes those styles all his own, it'll be phenomenal!

    WHAT A VOICE!

by kdwinnipeg on 2009-11-20PARK THEATRE - WINNIPEG

This man has so much to give....and I believe he's destined for big, big things. Beautiful vocals that touch your heart - and I don't know Spanish. A tight 3 piecer that settles into delicious grooves that carry you away to Alex's homeland, travelling through cane fields and breathing in the spirit of Cuba. And a band that enjoys themselves so obviously and looks like there is no place else on earth they'd rather be than playing for you. Go Alex go.....cut it loose brother!

Alex is sooo original and coool

    by TheRussian on 2009-11-16LOCAL 522 - CALGARY

I loved the venue, it was small enough to make it feel like a backyard party. I am sure Alex can fill bigger space though. This was my second time seeing him in concert and to my surpise he was different this time. He did not tell the same stories or jokes like other performers do, so he did not feel like a fake. He played each of his songs with a bit of improvisation. I could recognize them, but at the same time he made them different, probably to fit his current mood. He is very talanted musian and amasing performer. Last time I saw him he played acustic guitar and shared inspirations for his songs, but this time he had a drummer and another gutarist and he played electric gutar, and there was almost no talking. Both variations were unique and inspiring.

go see him. for sure. bring him back!

    by anonymous2 on 2009-11-15LOCAL 522 - CALGARY

Alex brings the whole musical package to the stage, and plays as if he is having a conversation with the audience. An intimate venue was the perfect setting. Even his sound guy was spot on, bringing out acoustics that had me forgetting that i was in a pub. Alex subtley brings reggae and rock to latin music without losing the gentleness and sensuality of cuban rthyms and voice. just plain awesome and unforgetable. I hope he returns .

    Alex Cuba in Calgary

    by fanoflivemusic on 2009-11-15LOCAL 522 - CALGARY

Alex Cuba was amazing. Great live show - he sounds even better live than he does on his CD! Great performer. Upbeat, made you wanna dance! I would definitely recommend an Alex Cuba show! Cds were overpriced though. I had just bought one that day at HMV for $13, and they were selling it for $20 at his show. Overall a great night out though. Bring your dancing shoes. I didn't love the venue. It was too small for the number of people, and the bar obscures the view of the stage. If you don't have a seat, which many people didnt, you have to stand, or dance!

    Alex Cuba ROCKS Local 522

    by UNCLEROCKIT on 2009-11-15LOCAL 522 - CALGARY

Alex Cuba doesn't just play the music, he IS the music. Backed by drums and bass, these arrangements are without horns or guitar overlays. You feel the strength and beauty of his writing. He played for two and a half hours and brought the room alive. The vocals are accurate and expressive, the guitar is funky and energetic, played in a unique style. At the end of the night, you know that you have witnessed the early work of a great musician who will really go far in this business.
