About
Algernon Cadwallader on Tour
Pennsylvania-based emo math rock band Algernon Cadwallader is back on tour for the first time in 10 years, to the delight of emo fans nationwide. While the band's sound is classically emo, there's something more upbeat about Algernon than most in the genre. For a group that started off playing Philadelphia basements and house shows, fans can expect an intimate and authentic delivery of the group's signature off-time rhythm and clean emo math rock. As lead singer and guitarist Peter Helmis said in press materials, "these shows are gonna be 100% authentic Algernon." Don't miss your chance to see the band that Stereogum labeled as "heroes of the emo revival" on Algernon Cadwallader's first tour in a decade.
Algernon Cadwallader Live in Concert
Yardley, Pennsylvania high school pals Peter Helmis, Joe Reinhart and Colin Mahony formed the precursor to Algernon Cadwallader in their first band, Halfway to Holland. While Halfway to Holland had a heavier sound with more reverb and fuller chords, the relationships and inspiration for the future of Algernon Cadwallader were all there. After separating and playing in various other projects, the trio reunited and brought on Nick Tazza to form Algernon Cadwallader in 2005. The band consisted of Peter Helmis on vocals and bass, Joe Reinhart on guitar, Colin Mahony on guitar, Nick Tazza on drums, and later Matt "Tank" Bergman on drums. Citing Cap'n Jazz and The Beatles as influences, the band began producing its signature blend of clean math rock and Midwest emo. In 2006, the group released their first five-song demo. By 2008, they had produced their first full-length album, Some Kind Of Cadwallader. In the same year, both Tazza and Mahony left the band, and Matt "Tank" Bergman was brought on to play drums. After gaining popularity and praise from emo fans, the band went on their first European and U.S. tour in 2009. Later that year, Algernon released an EP titled Fun. Before calling it quits in 2012, the group released their last full studio album, Parrot Flies. Realizing an opportunity to keep their music alive, the group re-issued their past albums and EPs to digital streaming services in 2018. The re-issue included what they called their "third LP," consisting of their very first demo, the Fun EP, various b-sides and several Beatles and Beach Boys instrumental song covers. While the band was only active from 2005-2012, their cult following remains more than a decade later. In 2022, Algernon Cadwallader announced a North American reunion tour, their first in 10 years.
