About

Ali Sethi on Tour

Pakistani singer/songwriter, composer and author Ali Sethi creates infectious music that blends genres, challenges traditional gender roles and has amassed a huge international audience with its infectious rhythms and global themes.

Sethi was included onĀ TIMEĀ magazine's Next 100 list in 2022 and was praised for his use of ancient forms of music "to challenge and expand notions of gender, sexuality, and belonging."

His song "Pasoori" with co-vocalist Shae Gill has been streamed on YouTube more than 400 million times and he's known to have a huge following in India.

Sethi's live performances combine traditional ancient and baroque elements with modern synths and keyboards and provide warmth and inspiration on even the bleakest of days. Be sure to catch Ali Sethi live when he comes to a city near you.

Ali Sethi Live in Concert

Ali Sethi was born and raised in Pakistan in the 1980s and is the son of two award-winning journalists. When Sethi was 14, his father was arrested for allegedly making a "treasonous speech" in India, and was later acquitted and awarded Amnesty International's Journalist of the Year Award.

Sethi grew up in a household where his mother and father were always playing music, although he wasn't initially interested in the music lessons that his mother signed him up for when he was 8.

Later inspired by Noor Jehan's Punjabi songs and traditional South Asian music, he naturally developed his singing talents with encouragement from his mother and to impress his parents' friends at social gatherings.

He later trained for 12 years with gurus of voice in his native Lahore, Pakistan. To attend college he relocated to the East Coast in the U.S. and graduated from Harvard University. He later relocated to New York and made a name for himself as an author, publishingĀ The Wishmaker, his debut novel in 2009. Telling complex and compelling stories both on the page and in his music, Sethi adeptly blends inspiration from ancient sources with a modern aesthetic. As Sethi says, "I load my songs with baroque themes and metaphors because they allow for multiple interpretations. It's a gloriously campy worldview that gave me solace as an out-of-place kid in Pakistan."

Ali sethi as an artist and as a human being has come a long way since 2012. He is the face of millions of south asian artistes and their craft. The concert made everyone nostalgic and emotional right form an 70 year old granny to a teenager. Apsrt from his music we got to know a bit about who ali is as a person and the Anecdotes from his personal life were hillarious. His charm and zest for life is infectious. A performer defying the rules of business and love. šŸ«€

I just quickly want to address the complain that Ali Sethi started ā€œlateā€. He wasn’t late. the venue’s Instagram page said clearly that Ali comes on stage at 10pm so I think it was def preplanned, BUT I agree that it just wanted communicated well with the audience, because not everyone is following their insta/ checking the story. Also although AS is from a Muslim background, he doesn’t cater to only muslims. people from all over the desi diaspora love him, and some do drink. I don’t drink either and don’t like drunks around such a calm show, but just be mindful that there are other people who have other their own agendas.. also downtown and parking just don’t work together… I feel bad for you guys but it’s good to do your research beforehand. This management issues don’t reflect the show which was perfect.

People had to wait outside in the rain for a long time. And the show started so late! Time was 8pm & it started at 10pm! Ali Sethis performance was good. But needs to learn to appreciate other peoples time & at least apologize for the delay

I had such high hopes and expectations for Ali Sethi’s concert and as soon as we reached the venue, it was off. There was a gigantic lineup stretching across the streets and corner so my friend and I went way at the end. The security checked our bags and scanned us. The venue has a rule, once we go in… there’s no re-entry allowed. We were surprised when we entered because the ballroom looked like a cabaret room and there were bunches of people who had reserved tables and seats. We didn’t get that memo! We stood and ate in the corner near a window and table near the bar. Keerat Kaur started off the show and Ali Sethi didn’t arrive till 10PM when the concert was supposed to be from 8PM. The venue location was terrible because we were right in the heart of downtown where parking lots are open and closed from certain times and it’s expensive so the parking lot I parked at closed at 11PM and I had to rush out of the venue quickly to find another place to park; which was impossible because driving in downtown is like an endless maze. I couldn’t find anywhere else to park so the concert finished, and I only got to see Ali Sethi for 45 minutes because I walked alone to my car in a rush to make sure the gates didn’t close before I got in otherwise my car would be stranded underground. There were no seats for us to sit on at the venue so we were all standing in the middle for so long, even while he sang amidst a crowd of drunk fans. I can’t believe they opened up bars for guests at a concert for a Pakistani Muslim artist. It was an absolute shame to our community and it’s beyond uncomfortable being surrounded by drunken people and liquor for us. If we knew there was going to be booze there, we would’ve never gone. There were literal Hijab-wearing Muslim women and men with beards in Pathani suits present and we all felt so uncomfortable knowing they too are so shocked that Ali Sethi’s concert turned into a drunken rave in a club. Everything about this concert was just horrid and inappropriate for Ali Sethi’s Muslim audience. I do not recommend attending his tour, and he showed up in an actual checkered night-robe lol no words for the lack of professionalism and class but avoid this concert - it wasn’t worth it at all.
