About

Five years after their original frontman, Layne Staley, died of a drug overdose, Alice in Chains made an unlikely return in 2007. Surviving band members Jerry Cantrell, Mike Inez, and Sean Kinney recruited frontman William DuVall to join the group, first for some well-received concerts, then to go on tour. Next came a new album, 2009's "Black Gives Way To Blue," which got glowing reviews, entered The Billboard 200 at No. 5, and led to more shows with fast-moving tickets. In 2013,  the band released their second post-Staley album, this time reaching No. 2 on The Billboard 200. The only AIC album to chart higher was 1995's self-titled set -- the band's last with Staley -- which reached No. 1.

Alice in Chains' dark take on rock emerged from the same late '80s Seattle scene that also spawned fellow grunge acts Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden, among others. With Staley at the helm, the band recorded rock radio staples like "Rooster," "Heaven Beside You," "Got Me Wrong," and "Would?"  The band has been nominated for eight Grammy Awards -- including two with DuVall on the mic -- but so far haven't won an award.

Alice in Chains are always great, but this was beyond belief. The acoustics in the QE really accented what the band is capable of. Fantastic!!

  • Alice in Chains!

What a great show! The intimacy of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre lent itself to one giant, throbbing sing-along (or should I say scream along?) Even though AIC isn't really a visual band and there were very limited effects, it was still electrifying and all in all, a fantastic concert for those of in our 40's & 50's that were part of the grunge era and were saddened when Layne Staley died. There were some younger people there as well that were having a good time but... mostly it was us fossils rockin' out.

  • Still going strong after 31 years!

Fabulous concert! Row 7 - dead center. AIC played their greats and new songs. Some visual effects were crazy bright! Sound was very good, but not ultimate. Would have been better 10+ rows back. Opening band was okay, not great. Vocals were not great, but the female drummer made up for everything!

Good show for kicking off a tour. I'd see them again here.

I wasn't sure what to expect, I am a huge AIC fan from back in the day but haven't kept up since Layne died. They totally blew me away. Seats were amazing, setlist was amazing, the entire crowd was singing along to the classics. Will definitely see them again.

Vocals were excellent, the band was tight, volume was out of this world. Excellent start to the tour! Hope they return to finish the North American leg. Will definately see them again.

  • AIC’s still got it!

First night of the Rainier Fog tour and some of the equipment stopped working but the band was having fun with it and laughing it off as first night complications. They played a mix of old and new and the crowd sang their heart out. It was unforgettable!
