  • A brilliant event

by Abomb on 2025-07-04Théâtre Beanfield - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was great, and not packed tight. I did get good seats though. The crowd was spectacular, great vibes. Alok was lovely, vulnerable, open, hilarious and all the things I'd hoped. They are amazing and heartfelt and speak from their heart. Moments I wanted to hug them and comfort them, and so many moments of perfect perception. And dark. I love them.

  • At last

90 minutes of pride and inclusion. It felt good to laugh with someone who dares being openly non-binary. Empowering mostly.

  • Very cleverly funny

I discovered Alok via a clip on social media that a friend posted and wanted to know more. When I saw they were coming to my city, I booked tickets. During the show, I was trying not to laugh too hard for fear of missing what was being said. My face hurt at the end. I love the sort of comedy that muses wryly on life, making astute and acerbic observations. Alok came across as supremely authentic, and my daughter and I loved the show.

Alok was hilarious and brilliant. I feel like a better person after seeing their set. I laughed And cried the whole time. They have managed to find a way to do comedy that fuels and uplifts instead of numbing and tearing down. I’m so glad Alok exists.

A great thinker and poet, weaving together words—spoke about living joyfully through daily grief, the ongoingness of the colonial gender-binary, and comedy as a space of freedom (of sorts). Such a 🌟

THIS SHOW WAS EVERYTHING!!! Weaving between emotive spoken word pieces to stand-up comedy that was as high concept as it was playful. I laughed, I cried, I laughed again - and I'm talking deep belly, laughter that bubbled up from the well-spring of your soul. This show was SO. FUCKING. GOOD! Do yourself a favour and get yourself a ticket the next time this absolute gem of a human being performs.
