About

Like their band name, the multi-faceted sound of British indie rockers Alt-J (∆) requires a bit of explaining. The name derives from the combination of keys that results in a delta sign (∆) on Mac computers; the sound – a combination of folk-pop, skittering polyrhythms, and soaring falsetto harmonies – results in happy critics and even happier listeners.  The quartet formed in 2007 in a Leeds Metropolitan University dorm room, and the constraints of recording demos in a quiet study environment heavily influenced their hushed, intricate approach to indie rock. Their 2012 debut An Awesome Wave received the Mercury Prize, Britain’s most prestigious music award, and launched the band to indie stardom with singles “Breezeblocks” and “Fitzpleasure.” Alt-J are on tour in 2013, and ticket buyers can be sure that no matter how big the venue, the band will deliver the intimate live concert they’ve become known for.

    A magical experience

by Leah M on 2024-02-21Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

One of the best concerts i've been to. Not only is their music amazing, but the visuals on stage made you feel like you were in a different world. Such a vibe. Defo worth seeing them live.

Great show with Alt J and Portugal the Man

by Max Power on 2022-05-04Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

Saw the show at Coca Cola Coliseum and it was amazing! Really great seeing a live show again. The whole show sounded loud and it rocked. I loved the stage setup for Alt J they could be seen well and sounded even better. I went to the show to see Portugal the Man but I will definitely be checking out some music by these guys now. Portugal the Man was great I loved to hear them live for the first time. The only complaint of the whole night was that I couldn’t see them very well. Where Alt J were raised up off the stage and could be seen I was a little disappointed that all I could make out were silhouettes. To make matters worse the guy running the smoke machine ran that bad boy on full tilt for almost the whole set. Any chance of getting a glimpse of the band was completely smoked out. But they all sounded amazing and I really enjoyed the show.

    Alt-J is a jam.

by tutisorlov on 2022-04-21Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

I was a little bit disappointed with Portugal. The Man, as I expected that both bands would be headliners. Anyways, Alt-J outperformed itself, unforgettable night.

    Brilliant performance!

I have never seen a three-piece outfit pull off so much of the details without a bunch of sequenced stuff. Truly organic reproduction.

Had to stand in line way to long to get in.

by Ken on 2022-04-21Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

I missed the first few songs from the one band I went to see and one was my favorite songs and deciding factors on buying the tickets. This is because I had to stand in a very long line just to get in.

    Alt-J always amazing

    by D. T. on 2022-04-21Coca-Cola Coliseum - Toronto

My third time seeing Alt-J and they never disappoint, Great Musicians, inventive drummer, great songs. They also seem to put together a simple yet beautiful stage show. Loved the aquarium effect. Sound was fantastic with excellent Bass levels and clear vocals. My first concert in 26 months, so much fun. The Coca-Cola Coliseum was a pretty good venue also Highly recommend catching them when you can 5 stars
