Stacy Jones, a veteran musician who previously played drums in alt-rock outfits Veruca Salt and Letters to Cleo, formed American Hi-Fi in 1998, originally naming the project BMX Girl before Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones convinced him to change it. Featuring Jones on vocals, American Hi-Fi quickly made a name for itself with high-octane performances and an airtight sound that emphasized catchy choruses and razor-sharp musicianship. The band's self-titled 2001 debut album was a massive success, topping Billboard's Heatseekers chart and scoring the band's first hit single "Flavor of the Week". Following extensive touring the band released their sophomore album The Art of Losing in 2003, once again climbing the charts with successful singles like "The Breakup Song". Three more hard-charging albums followed including 2014's Blood & Lemonade, a triumphant release that included the singles "Allison" and "Golden State".
