    Could have been great...

by Jeromo on 2023-03-27Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - Edmonton

I think the actors did a great job with their performances, and there were some genuinely funny and heartwarming moments. All of the supporting characters were also brilliantly cast. HOWEVER, the casting for the Anastasia character was terrible. This story is based on a real, historical figure, but they made no effort to cast someone who actually fit that role. Instead, they tried to appease the "diversity" nuts, and in doing so, completely disrespected Russian culture. That aspect was really dissapointing.

    Anastasia

    by D. C. on 2023-03-15Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I liked the singing and dancing. The costumes were beautiful and authentic. The only complaint I have, and it’s a big one, is that I couldn’t hear the actors when they were speaking in the first half. The sound improved in the second half.

    Nice Night Out

by NorthernClass on 2023-03-15Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Anastasia was not a spectacular production that knocked my socks off but if you want a pleasant evening out with a good story line this show is for you. The stage setting(s) were almost too "digital" for my preference but they were done well enough to pull it off for this show. I was a bit disappointed that the tour company had run out of programs - how does that happen? You would think that is something that if you are running low they would be able to get them overnighted in. I know you can download one on your phone but the whole point of the program is to have something to browse through and have as a souvenir to add to the collection at home, referring back to from time to time. I downloaded the program on my phone while I was waiting and it was so small that by the time I enlarged it to read, I lost the perspective of the page. It annoyed me within seconds and I stopped even trying. Clearly, since they were sold out I am not alone in my desire to have a physical program and hopefully the tour company realizes that some things are still better "old school". I would tell you the name of the actress that played Anastasia was spectacular if I had a program and could tell you who that was. Sadly, I'm not able to tell you who "Lily" was either but she was outstanding as well. The venue was fantastic. We had seats in row 14 just off center (seats 65/66) and they were great. Despite a 6 foot (plus) gentlemen sitting in front of me - I'm 5ft 3 - I was able to see the majority of the stage and only had to shift in my seat once or twice to see. For the most part it didn't detract from the show which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, the evening out was nice.

    Fantastic!

by Jaqueline P. on 2023-03-15Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

I didn’t watch the trailer or anything and had no expectations whatsoever. This musical piece is not only good, it’s fantastic! I will watch it again when the show returns. Closer seating as well.

    Could’ve been better

by MariaS on 2023-03-14Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Overall I liked it as I liked the animated movie it’s based on. However the musical couldn’t decided if it wanted to be based on history and or the animated movie. Would’ve been better if they picked a lane. Didn’t enjoy the villain found his character quite boring (the actor was really good though)

The music and the visuals were absolutely fantastic! I've loved this movie my whole life and Once Upon a December was the first song I can remember falling in love with as a little girl!

The singing and dancing was fabulous! The costumes took your breath away. Very good pace for a long show, but I was never bored.
