    Extremely late

by KiKi on 2022-10-27UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

The staff are not informative. We arrived at 7:15pm for a 8pm show. You first go through ticket validation then security check and then you have to place your cellphone and smart watch in a secured bag. You are not allow to access your devices in the building. The show was suppose to start at 8pm, it wasnt until past 9pm show opener came out. After 15 minutes, Chris Rock came out. There was no broadcasting or was informed that the show was running late. The didnt end until 11pm.

    Chris Rock @ Thunderbird

by Jewels on 2022-10-25UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

Last time Chris Rock was in Vancouver @ the Orpheum and it was FANTASTIC!!! Definitely ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars. However, his concert at Thunderbird was awful due to the venue. Even he mentioned how his voice was echoing. Wouldn't they check or prepare ahead of time what the sound would be like?? He would be telling a joke and it would echo a second after. Very annoying!! It took attendees about 45 minutes getting checked into the venue because they were securing cell phones and they only had two entrancs open. There has to be a quicker set up. After the show it took us an hour to leave the parking lot.

    CR Rocked!!

by ksc on 2022-10-25UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

Why-Oh-Why did the show start almost an hour after the start time quoted on my tickets? Was that the fault of the venue? If so, shame on you, UBC Entertainment!! After the long, long wait, the Opening Act was a HUGE disappointment. However, that very well could have been my annoyance at the long, long wait. I so admire Chris Rock and want to believe, with all my heart, that it was not his fault that the show started so very late. He was fantastic. First time that I’ve seen him live and both my friend and I loved, Loved, LOVED his show!!!!!!

Great show but everyone was body patted down and had to secure their phones so getting into the venue was very very time consuming.

    Slow check in

by Redjudyder on 2022-10-25UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

The paperless plus locked phones caused a huge delay for the start of the show!!!! The show itself was quite good.

Mediocre at best, more than can be said for the venue

by noble on 2022-10-25UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

There were a few good spots but otherwise it fell well short of what you’d expect from a headliner at a far smaller venue. A handful of worthwhile jokes, some proud father moments, a lot of filler and a stretch of dirtier material which came across more like an attempt to line up a casual encounter after the show than an attempt at humor. As for the venue, Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre, it was a first and last visit. If this venue regularly hosts large events nobody told them. An hour plus lineup to get to the gate which was plagued by a variety of technical, communication and organizational issues ensured that the only way you were seeing the opening act was on Netflix. Concession lineups rivaled the lineup to get into the venue with the exception of the West Concourse which offered shorter lines and a game of “what am I in line for?”. With several stands stationed in front of a 25 foot high wall, absent of any signage, there was no shortage of animated responses as people discovered that their lineup either only sold one item or was out of stock of most items. Unfortunately it wasn’t until you reached the front of the line that you were able to see that under the counter was an unlit laminated piece of paper displaying the drink options that were most likely already sold out even though the main show hadn’t started. Assistance from ushers was apparently limited to pointing you in a general direction and was clearly ineffective given the number of people that could be seen trying to find their seats after the main show started. People could be seen asking others for assistance in addition to their being a few disputes including our own. Our dispute was mild but it was surprising that it went unnoticed given that we were seated center-right row 3. There were a number of other issues that you could take your pick from but the real disappointment is that there are a few shows coming up that we would be attending if only it was not at this venue.

Whomever chose the venue - should be fired!

by Princess on 2022-10-25UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

I live 10 minutes away from the venue - but it took over 90 minutes to get there. The worst place in the city to host an event that large. Getting into the stadium was a gong show. No one knew where to stand, where to enter, which doors to go into - it was so disorganized, it was frankly embarrassing! And the whole concept of locking up your phone was a joke! While some people were in line, others snuck by without getting their phones locked, people forgot their seats and had to barge into the line to get their phone packs unlocked. Lineups to get food or drinks were ridiculous. Chris Rock was awesome! Thank God or else it would have been a waste of time and money. Getting out of the stadium was yet another gong show. Hundreds of people were suppose to go thru a teeny tiny opening meant to only allow one person at a time. And let's not forget the parkade ...........it took almost 45 minutes to get out of the parkade. Seriously - whomever chose this venue should be fired. Like what were you thinking!

    Chris Rock experience

by Kelly on 2022-10-24UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

My wife and I sat front row center and I must say the seats were amazing. The comedian who came on before Chris was very funny. He had a great act and picked on a few of us(in a good way). It was non stop funny. When Chris came on it was only funny for the first few minutes. He would say rhe same thing over and over and then it started to become far to political. I didnt find him to be as funny anymore and he actually became quite racist with alot of the things he pertained to be jokes. I am caucasion and if I said anything close to this then I would be labelled a racist. We spent alot of money for our seats and I soon realized that it was not worth it. We were very disappointed.

    Yonder pouches SUCK!

by Still a fan on 2022-10-24UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

I don’t know if it was because it took FOREVER to get in because we all had to lock up our phones and be patted down, or because it rained on us while we waited, or because the lady behind us got sick everywhere, but I just didn’t laugh very much at this show. I know all those factors came into play, but I also found that it took Chris Rock quite a while to find his stride. Sorry to say that I was disappointed 😢
