About

Alanis Morissette established herself as the foremost female singer-songwriter of the 1990s with her 16-time platinum-certified third album Jagged Little Pill, released in 1995. The Ottawa, Ontario native had already released her 1991 debut Alanis and 1992’s Now Is the Time before graduating high school and moving to Los Angeles, where Morrisette began to develop Jagged Little Pill. After its release, Jagged Little Pill gained steam behind singles like “You Oughta Know,” “Hand in My Pocket,” “Ironic” and “You Learn,” propelling the album to Morissette’s first of three consecutive No. 1s on the Billboard 200. At the 1996 Grammys, she claimed four trophies including Album of the Year, Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song for “You Oughta Know.” The album has sold more than 33 million copies worldwide, and remains one of the all-time best-selling albums in the U.S. 1998’s Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie and 2002’s Under Swept Rug followed, led by singles like “Thank U” and “Hands Clean.” In 2018, Morissette debuted the musical Jagged Little Pill, which reimagines her catalog while adding several new, original compositions, and the production moved to Broadway a year later — landing 15 Tony nominations and two wins as well as a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album. Morisette then released her ninth and tenth studio albums, 2020’s Such Pretty Forks in the Road and 2022’s The Storm Before the Calm

  • Extremely fun!

by Jessica on 2024-09-02Rating: 5 out of 5

I had a blast at the Alanis Morissette concert, Toronto Budweiser Stage. What a talent artist, her sound, her presence and energy was incredible! She really rocked the whole show! Her openers were amazing also; how lucky we were to see Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, along with Morgan Wade. Thank you again for sharing your passion and music with us! I cannot wait for your return!

  • Living Legend, Incredible Show

by Pete Paps on 2024-07-23Budweiser Stage - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

It is no exaggeration to say that Alanis Morissette embodies the zeitgeist of the mid to late 90s. Listening to her perform her music live transported me back to the summer of '95 and is likely the closest I will ever come to actual time travelling. For context, when the JLP album came out, I had just finished high school. Most of the people in the audience at the show on July 14, 2024 were about my same age, and most were women. When she belted out "You Oughta Know", everyone was on their feet, singing and dancing along with a mixture of joy and sadness that moved me. The women in particular evoked a catharsis, which seemed to be animated by memories of decades of being mistreated by men and having overcome and survived it. It was therapeutic ecstasy. Later, Alanis belted out "Mary Jane"with such tenderness and vulnerability that you could see some women in the audience literally crying. Her music resonates with her audience right down to their core. Her physicality and showmanship also blew me away. Whether it was her long, low, strides (both forward and backwards), her whirling and hair whipping, or her harmonica solos with drum accompaniment, she moved like that indie girl from the 90s that we all remember. I have been to hundreds of rock concerts, mostly mainstream classic rock and this was decidedly something different. To be clear, I was overjoyed by the performance and would recommend this show to anyone who grew up in the 90s or enjoys Alanis' music. It was incredible and I will definitely see her again anytime she plays in Toronto. "Thank you"Alanis.

  • OK Show

by Jaffa on 2024-07-21Budweiser Stage - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

The crowd was rather overwhelming, but only because we were on the lawn portion of Budweiser Stage. I was very difficult to find any one area to be comfortable in and very difficult to see the stage. The concert was great to listen to,but again, very difficult to watch. Next time,we'll spend the extra few bucks, and get ourselves better seating.

  • Bad sound

by Pam on 2024-07-20Budweiser Stage - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

Joan Jett was fabulous. Alanis Morissette was fabulous but the sound system was not. It was very difficult to understand most of the lyrics. I've seen Alanis Morissette before and she's amazing. This was the sound system's fault. It was very disappointing.

  • Iconic

by Tammy on 2024-07-17Budweiser Stage - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I went to the show to see Joan Jett as I hadn’t seen her since the club scene in the 80s. She was absolutely amazing. She had her punk pixie cut, dark eyes and unlike so many artists, her voice. I was pumped to see Alanis Morrisette. To say she owned the stage and the night was an understatement. She was frenetic and vibrant. Her voice, on point. She kept the audience mesmerized. It has to be my favourite concert this year. If you missed her, you missed a lot.
