About

Bursting onto the scene with the playful party single "Barbie Girl," Aqua catapulted to superstardom in 1997. In 2011, The Danish-Norwegian foursome returned to the studio to record Megalomania, their first new album in over ten years. After pursuing different avenues in the entertainment industry, band frontwoman Lene was discovered while working as a television host by René Dif, a Norwegian DJ with a ton of industry experience. Recognizing her energy and talent for what it was, he immediately recruited her for the band he'd just recently formed with two friends. It was 1994, and Aqua was now complete. A mere two years later, they were signed to Universal Music Denmark and released their first single, "Roses are Red."

"Aqua Diary," a 1998 documentary, captured the spirit of the band's live act. Culled from concert footage shot during their Aquarium tour, the documentary offers fans a glimpse of the energy Aqua is capable of onstage. During one part of the film, Lene teases ticket holders while strutting across the stage, striking a riot girl appearance amidst the strobes and smoke of a hip, club atmosphere. Megalomania came as a surprise to fans, who were expecting a throwback to the band's bubblegum days. What they got instead were tunes like "Kill Myself" and "Playmate to Jesus," songs with unexpected thematic twists. The band's greatest hits album is due for release in 2014.

Of course, the band will always be known for their mega smash, "Barbie Girl." The fun, infectious beat set the song a cut above the average novelty single. Today, Aqua continues to draw a new generation of fans who know fun when they hear it.

    Winnipeg Manitoba Canada

    by Jaybird on 2024-01-11

I know a bunch of people that would love to go see them again in Winnipeg Manitoba as I was at the last concert which was the 90’s tour and I swear they said they would come back but still no dates for us

    Aqua in REGINA

    by WhiteTiger on 2023-09-02

The MuchMusic dance part was a surprise and alright. Wish I was on the floor to enjoy dancing to the tunes. The small seats and walk space made a bit rough to sit and enjoy. The approx half hour wait for Aqua to come to stage was the part I didn't enjoy, made people anxious and returned them to zombie out on their phones. When Aqua finally appeared it was very memorable. I knew all the songs, nice to see them live, nice to recall the memory I had attached to certain songs. I loved how they interacted with the fans, how they got off stage and joined the crowd. Would see then again

    Terrible-Long and drawn out-Left early

    by .:: on 2023-09-01

Event was drug out too far. For having no opening band that was one of the longest concerts ever. The much music dance party drug on for 2 hours with multiple technical difficulties. Aqua then took over 30 min to come onto the stage after it was done. We left 2 songs into their set. I was extremely unimpressed. You pay money to see a band and then end up watching tv for 2 hours instead, very disappointed.

Aqua great- dance party too long

    by Deethomp92 on 2023-09-01

There were over two hours of 90's music with much music videos before the show. I was expecting an hour, but the dj kept saying, "just a couple more"about 7 times before they finally left the stage and then it was another 30 minutes before Aqua came on stage. I just about got up and left because of how long the much music DJ was up there. When Aqua finally did come onto stage they were fantastic and entertaining.

Bran Van stole the show for us

    by Carlin on 2023-07-13

Bran Van and Prözzak were Top Shelf. I’d jump at the chance to see them again. Aqua was alright too. Just not my cup of tea.

An effective way to time travel.

    by HowItIs on 2023-07-07

Well, where to start. First thing, this show took place at the new(er) OLG stage at Fallsview Casino. What a venue, super clean, easy to navigate, wicked seats, close parking. Only negative about the venue, refreshment prices, like whoa, prepare for that scare. If you don't wanna spend exorbitant amounts of money come hydrated and certainly not hungry, otherwise beautiful space. Drinking here is probably about as expensive as Drinking in L.A. Now for the artists, ah the artists. What a show. Seriously, What. A. Show. Bran Van 3000 was the opening act, opened with 'Drinkin' in the L.A.' naturally, and while I wish they would have saved this banger for last I can also understand why they would have opened with it. The rest of their set was just as nuts. Their energy was wild, the inclusion of other live instruments like bongos, wow, what a way to open this show. Had me checking out Bran Van music I didn't know about after the show. Was a fan, now a bigger one. Wish the crowd had already been worked up as the response would have been just as crazy for Bran Van as it was for the rest of the show but I guess that's how it goes for opening acts. I mean, who doesn't show up right when the show starts? you bought and paid for tickets(or got them comped from the casino but I digress) how could you miss Bran Van playing one of the biggest songs of '97? Sucks to Be You. With that segue we're onto Prozzak. I can't say much about Prozzak as I feel there isn't enough space in this review and I could probably cover what I thought of every song in the setlist so suffice it to say I was absolutely blown away by what they did and just how they did it all. How is it they sound exactly like what they sounded like approaching almost 30 years ago? Don't ask me because it doesn't make any sense to me either. As soon as the crowd saw the old school 'hot show' album cover art on the screen the insanity ensued. 95% of the songs played where what I'm sure most everyone was familiar with and even songs you might not have known at the time left an impression not soon forgotten. I honestly didn't know what to expect with Prozzak but knowing what I know now, absolute sleeper hit of that entire show. I just don't think I expected it to be that good, okay, maybe good but beyond great? I was stunned. Beginning to end. Unbelievable. Would not classify myself as a religious individual but I now find myself praying we continue to see Simon and Milo come out and play shows because its a 90's treat much sweeter than anything you could find in a candy store today. My Oh My. See what I did there? Yeah, I'm good. This review was presented to you in AquaScope. Aqua. If you decide to do some basic googling on Aqua I'm sure you will notice just how time has moved along for most of us and just what age we are now and perhaps you'll reminisce on what age you were when Aqua came into your life. Once you see an Aqua show and upon finding out how old we all are now you should be blown as their energy is seriously next level. From start to finish. Unreal. I can't believe it. They open with some smaller hits to get you warmed up and they played songs from more recent years in their career and once they've teased you enough they know exactly what you want and certainly don't disappoint. Just about every hit from Aquarium was played and every single person in the audience was there for it. They joked on stage multiple times as to not needing to sing due to the crowd. The crowd takeover was much more than audible at times, much much more. Speaking of their energy and how it affected the crowd, is the upper balcony on the OLG stage supposed to shake and move up and down? I imagine its been engineered like that and having Aqua play at a venue certainly tested the structural integrity of that facility, so be ready for that. You'll feel the entire place moving beneath your feet if you are above ground. Wild. While the scientific debate on how we can achieve time travel is a hot topic there is not a single debate that going to see a 90's show with the three outstanding groups mentioned above is the only surefire way to time travel at least to the period of the late 90's. I seriously came home after work one night and stumbled my way into buying these tickets, I had no idea this show was coming to town but when I saw the names I knew I would be there. I let my hype build organically over the coming weeks and while I waited for the show I didn't listen to any of the artists as I wanted to experience what everyone would sound like live and to really experience their live music. What a great decision. To Bran Van 3000, Prozzak and Aqua. Thank you so very much for an experience I hope to never forget. I'll be here when you decide to do this again. 11/10
