Ottawa Senators History

The original Ottawa Senators were founded in 1883 and were one of the founding teams of the NHL during its early years, winning 11 Stanley Cup Championships between 1903 and 1927. When the NHL started to expand to the U.S., the Senators were sold to St. Louis and became the Eagles, but the team shuttered after one year. The second incarnation of the Senators joined the NHL in 1992. The Senators have since gone on to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs 16 times.

In 2007, the arena hosted games three and four of the Stanley Cup Finals. The arena is also known for being the place where Wayne Gretzky played his final NHL game in Canada.

No fun on a week night,

by Brian on 2024-01-21Canadian Tire Centre - Ottawa

Great game. I would like to go more often but….. Traffic for 7:00 week night is really heavy. Getting out of parking lot is a nightmare. 45 minutes after siren before we start moving. Only other options is leave game mid-way through 3rd. Time for a new building downtown.

    Great venue

by Tim on 2024-01-17Canadian Tire Centre - Ottawa

Over all great experience only two things I would mention the dj is absolutely terrible and from what I hear and see around me at games a lot of people would agree there’s a much better vibe when just good music is played and not some person just yelling over music. Next I would just like to say if the sens move downtown without parking you will lose a lot of fans and getting out of the venue will be a nightmare. Love this team go sens go

    Horrible Parking exit

by Craig on 2024-01-16Canadian Tire Centre - Ottawa

We are lot 2, with an opening between lot 2 and the one beside us cars just park in lot 2. Exiting is terrible, we used to be able to turn right and get out. Not it just takes forever. Brutal parking control

    We had a blasty blast

by Dani on 2024-01-16Canadian Tire Centre - Ottawa

Look. We love us a good old hockey game. We also love some nerdy business, especially Star Wars. The foot of snow didn’t deter us, and other than having my back and head repeatedly kicked in by two kids and smacked upside the head with foam fingers by the same lot, my Yoda hat and I loved our night. Hopefully, next game is located in a more adult friendly section! Ahaha Cheers

    Never a bad time

    by northstar71885 on 2024-01-08

Great in-game experience. Beer is cheaper than most other sporting venues (but still pricey) so it's always a green light at the CTC to have a great time with friends and cheer on our Sens. We usually take OC Transpo ($3.75) or a shuttle from one of the bars that offer it (Lieutenant's Pump, The Senate, Glebe Central Pub, price ranges from $11-$17). That way we don't have to deal with parking and don't need to worry about a designated driver or the post-game traffic jam. It's truly the best way to do a Sens game and there will be plenty more outings this season and beyond. Just hope that Lebreton Flats arena comes around soon. GO SENS GO!

    All good … except

by GoDevils on 2024-01-01Canadian Tire Centre - Ottawa

The parking is a nightmare to get in a lot (passes only in some) and more importantly to get out / what a mess, literally had to wait for 20,000 people to get in their car and sequence out of the lot / it made tailgate parties at a stadium look like a walk in the park / seriously people - have some people directing traffic on the street and in the lot, like hello ?

Love Sens Games but the Show Feels Tired

by Sens Fan from Van on 2023-12-27Canadian Tire Centre - Ottawa

Always enjoy going to Sens games, will always support my team. Since moving to Vancouver, I've come to appreciate going to home games more and more since I'm not back in Ottawa very often. It's great to watch a game, even better when we win. However, it has become very apparent that the venue/location of the arena is not well-situated in the city, that the pre-game and in-game entertainment is lacking compared to other arenas, and the venue itself is just very tired. The pre-game entertainment (videos, pump up messages, player intros) feels lacklustre, and frankly, amateurish. It doesn't really create a buzz before the players come out onto the ice to start the game. The in-game entertainment feels bland and could use more interaction with fans, players, and alumni. For the game on Dec. 23 versus Pittsburgh, there was a musical act during one of the intermissions and while I could hear the instruments clearly, I could barely hear the lead singer. That issue isn't isolated to the singers, but also to speaker system in general. It can be hard to hear calls, especially on penalties or even general arena announcements. The venue itself is not in a great location in the city, parking is very expensive and is atrocious when trying to leave. I spent 30 minutes in my parking spot waiting to turn out to leave because the line simply was not moving. Inside, the venue is clearly showing it's age. The bathrooms are too small and the lines are not well managed to get in. The lines for the bathroom spill out into the concourse with no line/queue ropes/belts to keep it from blocking peoples way. Same can be said for the concessions. The lines move straight back out in to the concourse and is a nightmare to navigate through. Again, no real line/queue ropes/belts to keep lines organized and not spilling into the concourse. Fixing this would make movement around the concourse much easier as it is a much wider concourse compared to other arenas. It just lacks organization. The seats aren't bad, but again, you can tell they are tired and need replacing. The rows are not well marked anymore. The black spray-painted letters have faded and are hard to see causing many people to be sitting in the wrong row. Speaking of rows, the footpaths through the rows are very narrow and can be treacherous if you lose your balance, especially in the 300 sections. One last thing, WE NEED CUPHOLDERS! It's a tiny detail, but for the amount of times I've someone accidentally kick their drink/food or somebody else's drink/food moving through a row, the easiest and most sensible thing to do is add cup holders to the seatbacks in front of each seat to make it easier for everyone to eat, drink, and enjoy the game without worrying whether they spilled their food or drink under their seats. I seriously hope you take these into consideration and work towards improvements for future seasons. After all this fan base has been through, the in-game product and venue experience (minus the game itself, that's one the players and coaching staff) is something this fan base needs and deserves the top quality. Make it best in class.

    Generally good

by Sensfan on 2023-12-15Canadian Tire Centre - Ottawa

Canadian Tire Centre is a good overall facility. However, there are not enough washrooms. Also, need some urinal partitions for those with prostrate or other urinary issues that already have a hard enough time urinating without being highly visible.

    A Great Birthday Celebration!

by Emkaydee on 2023-12-15Canadian Tire Centre - Ottawa

Though the Sens played well they lost...BUT the entire evening was so much fun. We had given up on hockey games because the arena location is SO inconvenient. This time we stayed over at a hotel with a shuttle so the game was not an ordeal but a pleasure. Too bad Ottawa does not have a well-located arena. If we did, the seats would be filled.
