Atlanta Braves History

The Atlanta Braves are one of baseball’s most storied teams, tracing their roots back to 1871 when they debuted as the Boston Red Stockings. These origins make them the oldest continuously operating professional sports team in America. After chapters in Milwaukee and Boston, the Braves settled in Atlanta in 1966 and have captured four World Series titles throughout their history (1914 in Boston, 1957 in Milwaukee, and 1995 and 2021 in Atlanta). 

Under Ted Turner’s ownership in the 1970s, the Braves became a household name, earning the nickname “America’s Team” with star players like Hank Aaron, who broke Babe Ruth’s home run record in 1974. With Hall of Famers Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux and John Smoltz also in their ranks, the Braves run on a legacy of sportsmanship from their home at Truist Park.

Young Braves fans enjoy Hope & Will's Sandlot behind the grandstand in left field, while a canopy sits atop Truist Park's upper deck, protecting fans from Georgia's hot summer sun.
