Atlanta Falcons Team History

The Atlanta Falcons joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1966. Since their start, they’ve won six division championships and have appeared in two Super Bowl games (1999 and 2017). The Falcons began play in the former Georgia Dome in 1992, where they defeated all other 31 NFL teams at least once during their time there. In 1998, they had their best season to date, finishing 14-2 and winning the NFC West.

The Falcons played their final match at the Georgia Dome on January 22, 2017, beating the Green Bay Packers 44-21 to win the division title. Upon completion of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Falcons opened their new home with a preseason game in August 2017.

Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium

Located in Atlanta, the 71,000-capacity Mercedes-Benz Stadium (MBS) opened in 2017. Built as a replacement for the Georgia Dome, Mercedes-Benz Stadium was constructed completely with the fan experience in mind. Wide concourses give fans the ability to freely move around the stadium on any level.

MBS is one of the most sustainable and environmentally-conscious sports venues in the world. After achieving LEED Platinum certification upon completion in 2017, MBS focused on implementing operations to create a zero waste environment. As part of its sustainability initiatives, MBS developed and implemented a variety of green practices, such as water conservation, energy conservation, recycling and compost, alternative transportation, an urban garden, and agriculture programs.

MBS became the first sports and entertainment venue to achieve LEED Zero certification in any category which can only be achieved if a venue has achieved LEED Platinum, and the first Stadium worldwide to achieve official TRUE Platinum certification for zero waste. The diverted materials are reduced, reused, recycled, composted and/or recovered to curb the Stadium's overall environmental footprint.

Great Game, Game Experience, RISE UP BABY!!

    by RS4Ever on 2015-10-14Georgia Dome - Atlanta

Amazing NFL Game experience. Amazing Seats as they were on the 45 yard line thirty rows up. Food and drinks at the game are varied and reasonably priced with the coldest beer you will ever find. Highly recommend.

Georgia Dome wasn't too bad, but the Dolphins suck

by LondonDave on 2009-09-18Georgia Dome - Atlanta

I flew up to Atlanta just for this game, so to watch the Falcons destroy my team was pretty disheartening. I have no idea if I'm supposed to be reviewing the actual game (i.e. the Dolphins turning the ball over 8000 times and making me think all the money I spent was a complete waste), or the actual arena and show itself. Whatever, I'll just guess. Pros: The stadium is modern, nice looking, and easy to reach by train. I had a seat right at the back and had a perfect view - there were very few moments where I couldn't see the player/formation clearly. The Atlanta fans seemed like a good crowd -- plenty of banter and insults, but all good natured and friendly, I had a really good time hanging out with them before, during, and after the game. Cons: Like most US sports facilities, the beer selection sucks. $7 for a cup of Bud Light? What's wrong with people?!? After a 5 minute search I finally found a bar serving Heineken (the JD bar). I said I would go back at halftime for a few more, and when I did they had sold out!! No wonder, since this was the only bar in the stadium not selling disgusting American beer, ugh. More cons: Worst of all they made us wait outside until well past 11am at the Will Call counter before we could get our tickets; since there were no ATM's outside the arena (such a stupid design), we had to go inside for money, but obviously couldn't until we got tickets. So once I got my ticket, I only had 2hrs before the game to drink and relax. This is the main reason I'm giving this event 3 stars instead of 4. The actual game: Atlanta are a really good team right now. If you live in the Atlanta area, or are a fan of an away team heading that way, I would recommend checking them out. Whilst the Dolphins managed to stop the run (and Atlanta have a good running back in Michael Turner), the passing game was still too strong. This is an exciting offense that puts up big numbers, I'm just upset my team's supposedly improved team couldn't do a thing!
