About

B.B. King is in his late 80s, but the King of Blues is still on stage with his band and his famous guitar Lucille more than 100 nights a year -- a tour schedule that would tax many artists a quarter of his age. He's without a doubt the most well-known and successful living blues artist in the world. A Mississippi native, Riley B. King first built his reputation while working as a DJ, guitarist and jingle writer at the legendary radio station WDIA in Memphis, where he was known as "Blues Boy King" -- a nickname that was later shortened to B.B. He recorded his first album in 1949, and has released more than 50 albums since that have yielded popular songs like "The Thrill is Gone," "Three O'Clock Blues," and "You Upset Me Baby." King, a 1987 inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is known for his precise and sparse guitar style in which he plays individual strings instead of chords, coaxing his unmistakable sound by bending and holding notes. Today he plays concerts sitting down because of his diabetic condition, but that doesn't stop fans from scooping up tickets to see this still-vital living legend who influenced guitarists ranging from Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton to John Mayer and Derek Trucks.

    B.B. King is the man!

by Yass on 2009-12-29Star Of The Desert Arena at Primm Valley Resorts - Primm

I gave my sister B.B. King tickets for Christmas and he truly was the best Christmas present ever!! Despite having a cold Mr King's voice was still amazing, and sent shivers down your spine. The banter between songs was entertaining, and his mood was just uplifting. B.B. obviously loves his job. Such a great night! Only complaint was the venue was hard to get too, minimal transport options!!

BB still has it even at 84

by doodlze4 on 2009-12-28Star Of The Desert Arena at Primm Valley Resorts - Primm

BB's show made my whole trip to Veags worthwhile. He can still play and sing like no other!!! And to top it off, after the show he sat on stage and signed autographs for about 10 minutes! Who does that anymore??!! He is definately the "Mayor of Bluesville!"

    BB is KING

    by CJ28 on 2009-11-13Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

What a show once again the legend had us in the palm of his hand. I can't believe he is 84 years old and went "over time" with music, stories and one liners and what music. Every note as clear as a bell whether it was loud or quiet and the band had his back the whole time. Great horn section of course but the whole band just works magic. The opener Lukas Nelson is worth the price of admission on his own wow can THAT guy play guitar and the Promise of the Real band was tight. Well done all around. Thanks BB

    Fun and professional as usual

    by AndyinCalgary on 2009-11-13Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

The band opened up as usual with a blistering couple of numbers that showed off their excellent individual misicianship plus how tight they are as a group, BB came on and they went throught the usual set, BB as usual taking plenty of time to chat to the audience. I've noticed that there is a little more chat and a little lass playing over the years but then Im still amazed that he is still touring so much at 84 and that cant be easy at any age, my hat goes offto the man. He and the band still put on a great show and make sure each audience enjoys themselves each time. It was a pity he's not playing Canada this year, so a 2400km drive was neededt o see the show , and well worth it.

What a perfect way to spend an evening...chilling on the hill at DTE and watching some great Blues and surprised by a quick appearance from Patti Labelle ! BB King has alot of humor and great stories, yet why wouldn't he at the age of 83 soon to be 84 years old in sept 09!
