BARCELONA IN CONCERT:

Barcelona first emerged onto the indie rock scene in the mid-'00s with a string of poppy songs that drew comparisons to contemporary acts like Coldplay and Death Cab for Cutie. But the Seattle-based outfit's most recent studio offering, a trio of EPs dubbed The Melodrama, found them deeply embedded in '80s nostalgia. The glossy set of tunes are even more dazzling live, as lead singer Brian Fennell flaunts his impressive, multi-octave vocal range over shimmering guitar solos and heavy drum beats. The band's latest live shows give concertgoers a dancey spectacle brimming with sex appeal and intense emotion. Barcelona fans both new and old will get a kick out of Fennell and company's infectious onstage energy as they breathe new life into today's indie music landscape with their electrifying performances on tour.


BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Seattle in 2005, indie pop trio Barcelona is comprised of singer/guitarist Brian Fennell, drummer Rhett Stonelake, and keyboardist Chris Bristol. Their debut album, 2007's Absolutes, was a guitar-driven tour de force that captured the attention of Universal Motown Records, which re-released it in 2009. With the major label backing, Barcelona's tunes were featured on smash TV shows like "Vampire Diaries", "Pretty Little Liars", and "The Hills." For their next studio venture the trio decided to ditch the label, opting instead to return to their independent roots. They raised over $40,000 on Kickstarter and put the funds towards their next release, 2012's Not Quite Yours. In early 2014, the band went through a reinvention of sorts -- they released a three-part EP, collectively called The Melodrama, which features spacey guitars and big hooks reminiscent of '80s electropop. A supporting gig on tour with indie rockers The Fray in summer 2014 helped them recruit a massive following of fans, exposing their slick catalog to audiences worldwide.
