Was weak. expected much more, opening band played longer than Barney did. Expected much more, was excited to see the show but left disappointed. Good finish, maybe 6-8 songs but that was it. Honestly considering the age group at the event, that’s the fans came to see. I’m a lifer BB fan with vinyl. Don’t think I go see him again if the opportunity arises.
We totally enjoyed this concert. He was so engaging with the audience and there was great music, humor and an extra touch that was unique to this concert. We loved it and would call it one of the best concerts we have gone too. The Arden Theatre is so amazing and we were in the front row. At one point Barney sat on the edge of the stage and all the band can up close and personal and we loved it. Thanks for the show Barney.
We’d never been to the Arden theatre in St Albert before, the size is perfect and not a bad seat in the house. Barney Bentall and the Caribou Express put on the most amazing show that left us feeling so good and wanting more. The mix of artists, instruments and entertainment was so wonderful we loved every minute of the show. Highly recommend this show to anyone who loves live performances in smaller venues
I have seen the Express show almost every year since it started 13 years ago. I have travelled to multiple places in BC to see it and was very thankful to have it come to the Edmonton area once again. They have only been here a couple times before as have had a hard time with ticket sales. I encourage everyone to check them out next time. Barney is the humblest leader of a group of very talented performers. As my guest said, it is very difficult to have multiple players on stage at one time and all be so in sync with each other. Some of the guest performers have changed over the years which makes it a new show every time. They traditionally support a local charity wherever they play and have raised much funds for communities across BC and Alberta. Unfortunately, they did not have a charity for this event and I hope that someone in the audience with the abilities to organize such an event was moved to consider it for next year.
The reason we went was to hear Barney play all the songs that made him one of our favourite artists. He played 3 of his songs… the rest was a bunch of artists that I’d never heard of and definitely would not have paid to hear sing.
First saw Barney back in the late 80s while at Queen's University. And a few times since of course! Always in awe of his voice....and always leave his shows feeling like I've spent a few hours catching up with an old friend. So much fun!!
It was a very cool venue my 1st time there. Once I entered first thing in my head was WHERE ARE THE DRUMS???? :-) The spots were on the 3 mics they had a fog machine bringing in the smoke that we used to watch Barney in in the clubs that was from the cigarettes....then the trio walked out...and it was a very cool and laid back Sunday afternoon. There were some jokes made where, yes we are all getting older and a rainy Sunday afternoon and home in time for dinner,hell who doesn't dig that when your well getting up there, we are not in our 20s or 30s anymore Toto :-) The presentation of the songs the stories the delivery of glances were just what the heart n soul needed all we needed was a warm bowl of soup and a grilled cheese :-) Thanks for a great show!
I have been following Barney's career sine the Old Scotch days. He just continues to get better every time I see him and his excellent band!
Barney and the boys sounded amazing! Try to see him with the Express and the legendary hearts!
Great show by both bands, great playlist, great sound but a little too loud. Show started on time A+. Love the Commodore, but the lack of seating has always been an issue. Get there at door opening and sit and wait, or show up just as the band goes on.
If you went to Horizon Stage hoping to hear Barney Bentall, rock star, you might have come away disappointed. If you went hoping to hear "Do ya" exactly as recorded 20 years ago, you might feel cheated. If you went to listen to quality musicians, a great voice, and an ever-changing musical interest, you would have celebrated a great concert with the enthusiastic crowd. Music that blended from the folk rock of Barney's latest album to bluegrass to a cover of Hank Williams "Setting the World on Fire", Bentall set the stage on warm and delivered a great show.
Intimate venue....excellent concert! We had a great time singing along to his oldies!
