BECK IN CONCERT:

Alt-rock icon and master of reinvention Beck made a return to form of sorts in 2014 with Morning Phase, a companion album to 2002's beloved Sea Change. Eschewing the irony and sampling featured prominently in many of his other outings, Beck's latest is awash with earnest optimism and acoustic instrumentation — the result is a lush, organic, emotionally charged tour de force that comes across as beautifully in live concert as it does on record. Backed by a full band, Beck hits the road in 2014 for the Morning Phase tour, which includes a much-anticipated appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, CA.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Beck moved to New York in 1989 and cut his teeth in the city's anti-folk scene before returning to Los Angeles in 1991. In 1993, his limited-release single "Loser" became a surprise college radio favorite, eventually growing into a mainstream Top 10 hit and garnering him a flood of label offers. Signing with Geffen Records, he released Mellow Gold in 1994, launching to both critical and commercial success virtually overnight. 1996 follow-up Odelay would prove even more successful, spawning three hit singles and taking home several Grammys, including Best Alternative Music Album. In the ensuing years, Beck's creativity and fearless experimentation have made him one of pop music's most idiosyncratic talents — the acclaimed 2014 release of Morning Phase, his twelfth studio album, proved that he's just as vital today as he was 20 years ago.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Beck was ridiculously amazing. If you get a chance to catch him live, do it while you can. He is a true showman and should not be missed."

"As usual Beck put on an amazing performance. He played a few songs from each album (including the reader), and he played every last one spectacularly."

"He plays a mix of his old & new material, both acoustic & electric, he breaks out the harmonica, then plays a cover of Billie Jean. What!?! I only wish it could have gone on all night long."

    Upbeat and great energy !

by Adriano L on 2023-09-07Budweiser Stage - Toronto

It was an awesome concert. Despite of the outrageous prices of beer where the Budweiser stage should be leveraging the opportunity, the concert was fantastic and Phoenix participation on their setlist was remarkable.

    Great concert!

by Nacho on 2023-09-06Budweiser Stage - Toronto

It just sucks that people kept walking in front of you so there’s that. I know General Admission repercussions but it would have been great if people stopped walking while the concert was going on so we can enjoy a nice unobstructed view of the stage.

Great to finally see Beck live. And he did not disappoint. Awesome show. He never comes to Calgary, wish he would. Outdoor venue was great. Phoenix was a very pleasant surprise as they also put on a great show.

    Up and down

by Suki on 2023-09-06Budweiser Stage - Toronto

The first half of Beck’s set was amazing, but the second half was so-so. He lost a little energy when he slowed it down, and he never really picked it up after that. They show was still good in all, but it could have been better. And Phoenix was great btw.

    Beck and Phoenix slayed

by James in Toronto on 2023-09-06Budweiser Stage - Toronto

What an amazing concert. Phoenix just brought it. Knowing a few of their songs I figured it would be a low key afire. I was wrong, they brought high energy and worked hard! just a fantastic show. This was my second time seeing Beck, and as always, he brought it. Song after song it was just pure happiness and joy. easily the best concert I have seen a very long time.

    Phoenix crushed it in Toronto!!!!

by Tad on 2023-09-06Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Quite simply one of the best concert experiences I’ve ever had. I am predominantly a Phoenix fan however, Beck, blood and sir Chloe were all remarkable as well. Specifically however, Phoenix, was beyond anything I could’ve hoped or imagined, and their show was simply amazing. Musically. I feel Phoenix is one of the best bands around and has been for a while. Their performance was stellar! It was a Concert for the ages.

Beck is amazing! I have seen him at least three times and he always puts on an awesome show. He is an incredible talent and one of the greatest solo artists alive today. You forget how may great songs he has written until you see him live. If you're thinking about going to see Beck, just stop thinking about it and buy your tickets already! You'll sing, you'll dance, you'll laugh, you'll have an awesome time!
