About
BILL CHARLAP IN CONCERT:
Virtuoso jazz pianist Bill Charlap has been lending his nimble fingers to the Great American Songbook since the early '90s. It's been more than thirty years since his debut, but the multi-talented band leader is as vital as ever at his electric live shows. From standards like "Autumn in New York" to more abstract tunes that demonstrate his improvisatory skills, Charlap stays true to tradition while leaving room for plenty of creativity on his critically acclaimed tours.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born in New York City, Charlap was exposed to music from an early age -- his father was a Broadway composer and his mother was a successful singer. He began playing the piano at age three and developed an interest in both classical music and jazz, but he really found his niche when he began performing creative interpretations of standards from the Great American Songbook. Charlap has enjoyed a distinguished recording career, making his debut in 1994 with Along with Me and going on to release numerous solo albums as well as collaborative projects as a member of the New York Trio and the Blue Note 7. He has He's worked with a number of jazz luminaries including Benny Carter and Tony Bennett, and received two Grammy nominations for his acclaimed recordings. Back on tour Charlap will perform his beloved originals and also pay tribute to jazz legends like Charlie Parker.
