Decemberists rock my world
by Bethbee on 2014-05-27Boston City Hall Plaza - BostonRating: 5 out of 5While this is not my favourite outdoor event ever (the City plaza is a small, concrete jungle of a location) it is super accessible by T-line, super chill about in and out privileges so you can duck out for better food, better beer, better bathrooms and to find a place to sit and chat with friends when the not so interesting bands play (this place has no grassy or even decent chillout/lay down areas). On Saturday when we were there the lineups were not too bad but the published rules (no bags, etc) were either not followed or weren't updated on the website. We brought nothing in, as supposedly nothing but clear, small bags were allowed, but I saw lots of backpacks inside the venue and felt sadness about the sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, etc I left behind as I had no way to carry them. Its cool you are so chill Boston- just let the rest of us rule followers know! So venue is so-so (5/5 for accessibility but a 1/5 for places to sit or get away from the crowd), security vibe is 5/5 for visible but chill cops and calm pat-down crew, 5/5 for super fun beer service girl but 1/5 for cool beer choices (I know Sam Adams is a sponsor but I know there are good microbrews itching to showcase their beer at such an event) and 4/5 for music- if you pay more for the band do you give them a better sound check/sound guy? How could the Decemberists sound as crisp and clear as if listening to them on my headphones but Warpaint sounded like garbled garbage? Decent event.
