  • Lewd and not funny

by Sook on 2023-07-29Rating: 1 out of 5

The small venue was terrific. No trouble getting a seat at a table, and nice to have two bars. The land acknowledgment at the beginning was a respectful touch. The rousing JFL music usually played at the beginning of a JFL show never played. The MC was not particularly funny and had the habit of asking for a big round of applause before introducing each comic such that we couldn’t even hear each comic’s name as she announced it. Thus I have no idea of the names of any of the comics. She said there’d be an intermission but there wasn’t. Humor was mostly lewd, graphic, sometimes misogynistic and unfunny. Lots of jokes about semen, swallowing semen, oral sex, anal sex, anuses, etc. Better suited for the Nasty Show and not for a 7 pm audience. No British theme despite name of show; this show should have been called ‘Vulgar unfunny jokes spoken with British accents’. There were a few good jokes sprinkled in (esp 4th comic; woman from Nigeria) but disappointed overall.

Maybe I read the description of the show too fast when I bought my ticket, but I thought it was a Jen Brister show, so I was disappointed to discover that it was a showcase of her mates - which were all very good! but nonetheless, it was not what I expected.
