About

BROOKLYN RIDER IN CONCERT:

With endorsements from the likes of Philip Glass, Bela Fleck, and NPR rounding out their resume, there's little question that NY-based string quartet Brooklyn Rider is one of the freshest young forces in contemporary classical music. The group is known for pushing the boundaries of the classical repertoire with unique arrangements and energetic live performances, and they never cease to amaze with their passion and precision in concert. Whether they're playing revered works by Bartok and Debussy, showcasing their range with selections by Latin rockers Cafe Tacuba, or performing their own original compositions, Brooklyn Rider are a vital force that offer a little something for everyone on their critically acclaimed tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Brooklyn Rider formed in their namesake neighborhood in the mid-’00s, quickly taking the NYC art music scene by storm with their fresh take on the string quartet. The group's 2008 debut album Passport was named one of the best classical albums of the year by NPR, and in 2010 they became the first-ever classical act to perform at Austin's edgy SXSW Festival. In 2012 they once again made NPR's best-of list with the album Seven Steps, which included original material alongside a creative interpretation of a Beethoven string quartet. In addition to their acclaimed recordings Brooklyn Rider has collaborated with renowned banjo player Bela Fleck, premiered works by legendary composer Philip Glass, and performed their music at the Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. In 2014 the quartet released The Brooklyn Rider Almanac LP to another round of praise, and they continue to breathe new life into classical music with their inventive performances on tour.
