    Bulls After Dark

by HMC on 2019-07-17Nutrien Western Event Centre - Calgary

Loved it. Being a brand new event and combining a party atmosphere with bull riding and the BFO Entertainers; I got the impression many people weren't sure what to do. I noticed there wasn't a lot of audience participation or appreciative reaction to the events. However, I notice this is quite common in Calgary; people don't seem to appreciate what it takes to perform for the public. Their phones seems to be more important. The musical guest band was fantastic. The lead singer has an incredible voice. The guy running around the Coral (Danny??) all night was amazing. Glad to see him there as well as the rodeo each day. I will go again next year if it is available.

Awesome Show but the pregame needs some work.

by Cowtown Girl on 2019-07-16Nutrien Western Event Centre - Calgary

The show itself was spectacular but WOW were they disorganized getting everyone in. Everyone cattle called in the main gates. No ropes to keep people from butting in. And then once the doors opened everyone rushed upstairs to meet yet another cattle call. Again, no organization what so ever. It was suppose to be an 18+ event yet we did not see one person getting checked for ID. Thank goodness for that actually or I can only imagine how long it would have taken them to get everyone in. At the end of the show...it just kind of ended.. No one was sure if it was over because they didn't really have a proper ending. Maybe next time have the band play a few more songs at the end while people finish up their drinks and leave. But the show itself was something else. I'll def go again.

    Fun party rodeo

by CountryGirl81 on 2019-07-16Nutrien Western Event Centre - Calgary

This was an awesome event and we will definitely be back next year! They really got the party atmosphere going and the bull riding, music and all the stunt acts were amazing. Too bad they ran out of coolers just after it started and only served beer and canned caesars. For a party event like this we were hoping for a full bar.

Great first try, some room for improvement

by bryan on 2019-07-16Nutrien Western Event Centre - Calgary

I thought that this was a great attempt at a new event. Having the DJs and band there was great. I would suggest that they work a bit on the sound though since the band had no bass and was difficult to listen to at high volumes. I also wish they had more of the daredevil type stunts which they hyped up in the advertising. I loved the indoor fireworks, and the live music. This type of event was needed in order for the stampede to evolve and attract new viewers.

    AWESOME NEW EVENT

by jadybugs on 2019-07-16Nutrien Western Event Centre - Calgary

This was amazing! We LOVED the thrill of watching this event! We were speechless most of the time and amazed at how anyone would do what these bull fighters do! There is no way I would go into a pen with these angry bulls but it was sure fun to watch! We thought the bull riding would be the highlight but it was the bull fighting that had us sitting at the edge of our seats! It was like being at a rodeo/night club and country concert all at once! Well done Calgary Stampede for bringing this awesome event! One minor complaint is that it would be nice to end a bit earlier so we could watch the fireworks! We could hear them but the event was still going on!

    Great night all around!

by M. on 2019-07-16Nutrien Western Event Centre - Calgary

We had a great time! The atmosphere was fun, the bull riding was exciting (and the chats with the bull riders before their rides was well received), the bull jumping was something you don't see every day, and everyone was just smiles all around. We'll definitely go again next year!

    BOOM!

by Bits on 2019-07-16Nutrien Western Event Centre - Calgary

Awesome show! Music, lights, pyro, and amazing entertainment all around. I felt the audio mix could have been fine tuned a bit. The midst and highs were ear piercing at times. But the volume was awesome!

    Bull after Dark

by JO on 2019-07-15Nutrien Western Event Centre - Calgary

Generally great experience and atmosphere! Unfortunately the arrangement and orientation of the small freestyle arena was terrible and the time taken (not to mention the embarrassing number of ‘helpers’ trying to remove the bull from the arena) between each contender detracted from the overall experience. I’m a country boy and grew up with rodeos so I don’t have any problems with how the bulls were removed from the arena with the lasso, however I did notice the crowd were getting upset with the lack of care and professionalism shown by the ‘helpers’ in removing the bulls. Something to work on for next year.

    Good Fun

by P. E. on 2019-07-15Nutrien Western Event Centre - Calgary

Good event! Given it's the first time they've performed in this venue, I suspect a few changes before next year (give the bulls a clear exit that they'll actually use!). It was maybe just the side we sat on but we could only make out about 5% of what anyone was saying or singing - maybe the accoustics, maybe the sound system itself? Maybe the idea of "after dark" was to be a stark change from the daily stampede, but we kinda thought based on the crowd, they would play some more country tunes - remixed or not, but rather than only hip hoppy tunes. And the North vs South thing could probably be ditched, it was pretty cheesy - just have each rider ride for the win!
