Trumpet virtuoso Byron Stripling masterfully melds the worlds of jazz and classical music, continually impressing fans of both with his fiery onstage energy, world-wise voice and elegant playing style. He's toured and recorded with jazz greats like Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie, and has been featured as a soloist with some of the world's top orchestras including The New York Pops and the Boston Pops. On January 16-17, 2015 he's bringing his blowing skills to Arizona for a series of highly anticipated shows with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. Whether he's wowing ticket buyers with a dazzling solo or warming hearts with his soulful singing, Stripling is a consummate performer who always treats fans to an unforgettable night of phenomenally executed pop hits, jazz standards, and classical favorites.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Atlanta-born Byron Stripling studied classical trumpet at the prestigious Eastman School of Music in New York and Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan before jazz stole his heart. After finishing school he joined the Count Basie Orchestra, acting as lead trumpeter and soloist for the group for more than four years. He went on to play with a veritable who's who of jazz legends including Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Herman, and Lionel Hampton. Also a talented actor, he made his Broadway debut  in 1988 as Louie Armstrong in the hit musical Satchmo, wowing audiences with both his trumpet playing and singing. Since then he's performed regularly with some of the country's top orchestras including the Cincinnati Pops, The Seattle Symphony, and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. An experienced performer known for his warm personality and tremendous musical chops, Stripling continues to impress at both jazz clubs and classical concert halls around the country.
