The title is misleading, I had no idea it was an awards show.

    Janelle Monae is for real!

by Soundbombin on 2011-03-14The Fairmont Royal York - Toronto

Aside from the Venue, her performance was solid! A true performer...Good thing I went to the Afterparty and got a better view of Janelle Monae than the actual concert.

    USS at Pheonix 10-Mar-2011

by BrucePower on 2011-03-14The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Seeing USS live was great, however, the event overall was mediocre at best. The biggest criticism I have was the event starting nearly an hour late, and the nearly half-an-hour to change out the stage equipment between acts. There were three acts in total, USS being the headliner. The event was scheduled for 8 o’clock, and ended well after midnight, totaling nearly 5 hours. Two hours of which, the start delay and the change-out time, there was nothing going on and the audience was just standing around, everyone complaining about the delay. The Phoenix, being mostly standing room only, isn’t the most comfortable place to just stand around for five hours, two hours of which you’re board and irritated. I found myself relieved when the show was over; I’ve never experienced that at a concert before. The opening acts were good, and USS was fantastic live, though the poor management by the Phoenix venue made the overall night a negative experience.

    As Good As It Gets

    by Otter1961 on 2011-03-13Sound Academy - Toronto

What a show, from the first band " Desperate Union ", until Big Sugar's last note. This was a 10 out of 10 show, that would be well worth seeing if you are a fan or not. I would be more than happy to hear that Big Sugar is playing more dates in the future. Go see them and know that you will have an enjoyable time.

    Mother Mother is amazing

by bearstuffs on 2011-03-13The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

I was a little bit upset about how long it took for the band to finally hit the stage, but their presence and energy made it all worth it. They sound amazing and they played the perfect mix of songs! I had an amazing time!

    Big Sugar/ Sound Acadamy

    by BellyDub1 on 2011-03-13Sound Academy - Toronto

Opening band The masfeilds pumped up the full capacicty crowd to the point where it was coming apart at the seams, only to turn the stage over to Wide mouth mason, accopanied by Gordie Johnson on the bass. I think most of the audience useed this portion of the night to visit the washroom or to step out for a smoke. Not a pretty site. However everything turned around again as Big sugar was back after a near 8 year break clearly on tp of their game and ready to rock. The quality of show equaled them in their hay day, delievering blues, rock, reggae, dub and celtic vibes loud and in charge. Big sugar pleases a diverse crowd and apeals to a wide demegraphic. Almost forgotten but sought after by a sillent mob of dedicated Sugar fans, Big sugars plasticity in Canada and very much obvious in the Toronto area as this show indicated, Will make it interesting to observe Big Sugars notariaty at the drop of their upcoming album. Their live show is everything it should be and more, will Their long awaited new cd be the same? How will the rest of the world react to the new music? If the reaction is half as good as this concert was Big Sugar should be sitting pretty.

    MOTHER MOTHER - Woah Daddy!

by JennyFoy on 2011-03-13The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

This concert was phenomenal! Not just because I was fortunate to be in Toronto at the great venue (from Edmonton) BUT, the crowd was great and so were the opening acts. ROCOCO (sp?) and WHALE TOOTH pumped the crowd with thier electric front women and primed us for the mind blowing set of MOTHER MOTHER! I woudl return to this venue in the future and hope to see Mother Mother when they play in Edmonton in a couple of weeks.

by stellaB on 2011-03-13Sound Academy - Toronto

besr concert I've been to in years.first time at sound academy.LOVE the size of the venue.perfect actually. dont like the big places where the band look like ants, and close enough to the bar to stay quite pleasantly buzzed all night.

    Unbelievable Energy

by MattSeattle on 2011-03-12The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

As always, USS came out with unbelievable energy that could have you dancing you a** off all night! Their musical portfolio just has so much diversity. From songs like Drop Around the Clock which has a hip hop feel, to Pornostartrek which is a catchy love song you can slow dance to, to N/A OK which anyone can groove to. USS definitely puts on THE best live performance hands down.

    First time live

by Juki on 2011-03-12The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Mother Mother was great! It took a long time for them to come on but then again we didn't know that there would be 3 bands before them. When they did come on it was a good show. The sound was great. Listening to their CD before the show I was wondering how well the sound would translate live, but all doubts were put to rest as soon as they started with O My Heart. It was perfect! My one small visual glitch would be that the two girls in the band should bring their fashion styles closer together.

    Late Concert

by Anonymous on 2011-03-11The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Who puts on an event where the headliner goes on stage at 23:45 on a Wednesday night. How did people get home? and survive the next day at work. The last East bound train is at 00:13. We only got to stay for 2 Mother Mother songs, Oh My Heart and Hay Loft, don't get me wrong they were amazing.

this was an unbelievable show. mother mother never disappoints. they are, hands down, the best show i've ever been to. their music is so creative, and, if anything, sounds better live. they are so talented. also, the phoenix is a sweet venue.
