CHARLEY PRIDE IN CONCERT:

As one of the most successful African-American country artists of all time, Charley Pride stands as a pioneer of the genre and an enduring icon of traditional country music. With more than half a century of recordings and performances under his belt, Pride is a seasoned veteran on the road, traversing his decade-spanning discography with a care and tenderness that underscores his passion for the stage. From the familiar twang of "Is Anybody Goin' to San Antone" to the lap steel-drenched lilt of "Just Between You and Me," Pride covered all his greatest hits at his 2013 shows, drumming up enthusiasm for more of the same on his 2014 tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born to poor Mississippi sharecroppers, Charley Pride had aspirations of being a major league baseball pitcher before an injury led him to invest in his other passion: music. After recording several demos in Memphis in the late '50s, pride signed with RCA, releasing his first single in 1966 with "The Snakes Crawl at Night." Pride's third single "Just Between You and Me" really broke things wide open, landing at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning him a Grammy nomination. In 1967, he became the second black performer to ever take the stage at the famed Grand Ole Opry, paving the way for an astonishing chart run that saw him score eight No. 1 records between 1969-1971. Pride has continued to record and tour over the decades, racking up an impressive array of country hits and proving himself an indefatigable performer with his continued showmanship on tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Great show and he sounded as good as back in the '70s. He went through his entire portfolio and some songs I hadn't heard before."

"Close your eyes and you'd never imagine it's a 74 year old man up on the stage belting out one classic country hit after another for a solid 90 minute set. Charley Pride sounds every bit as good today as he did 30 years ago."

"It was all I expected & then some. Charlie played to the crowd & didn't limit himself to the main stage, instead moving to the side stages to interact with the entire crowd, making them feel more a part of the show."

    Charlie Pride was awesome

by 08Jan on 2009-07-15Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

Charlie Pride and his son were awesome. We saw Charlie in Nashville at the Grand Old Opry about 5 years ago. He was great then and we were thrilled to see him here in Hamilton. He is still a great performer and listening to him brought back memories of listening to him when I was young with my grandfather. His son is going to be as great as his dad. The show was unforgettable.

    charley was as always, amazing!!!

by juaneljefe on 2009-07-11Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

dion was not what i expected as an opening act and they perhaps did a little too much pushing of his "act".... the old man was without a doubt fabulous... did all the old favourites and a few songs of his contemporaries... no matter who opens for charley i would go back for a repeat any time!!!!

    Charley Pride

Let me start by saying I'm so happy to get to see Charley again. My wife and I saw him 29 years ago at the Mohawk Jamboree, when we were 20 and 21 years old. Charley is a true Gentleman and his voice is perfect. He gave a solid two hour show, with no disappointments. I'm proud that he came to Hamilton and I would see him over and over again. We also enjoyed the opening act which was Charley's son Dion such a nice young man, I hope his career does as well as his father. We wish him the best.

    Charley Pride was unforgettable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by blueeyes17 on 2009-07-11Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

The show was fantastic from start to finish. His son opened the show. What talent!! There was a half hour break because Charley received a letter from a fan stating it was their parents 50th wedding anniversary and Charley took them aside and sang to them personally. He really cares about his fans. He then came out and sang for two hours straight. Definately worth seeing I would recommend Charly Pride to anyone!!!! My parents loved it.

Charley Pride was amazing - He is the King of country and always will be - It was so awesome that his son opened for him and that they sang a duet - The fact that Charlie Pride has been married for 52 years goes to what a gentleman he truly is

Took my mother to the show, it was wonderful, brought back alot of good memories of my childhood, when my parents would play his music on the record player. Had a fabulous time and he sounds just as good as he did when I was a kid!

    Charley Pride still has it!

by Sparrow on 2009-07-10Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

This is the third time that I have taken my mother to go and see Charley Pride. When he started to sing his first song I looked over at my Mom and the tears were welling up in her eyes. She loves this man. He may be 71, but he still has a great voice and an amazing stage presence. His son Dion was also quite entertaining, this was an added bonus. The venue was great, there were no bad seats. The acoustics in the great hall were great. I hate to repeat myself, but it was great. This may have been the last concert of his that my mother will be able to go to and I am so glad she enjoyed herself. Did I tell you that she loves this man.

    Charley Pride was the best

by Stoney on 2009-07-10Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

He has not changed from the first time I heard him on radio. Still wonderful, has kept his downhome roots, never let the celebrity status go to his head. Knows how to charm an audience. Glad we got the chance to see him live. The best concert I have been to in a long time.

Very good show. Was well worth the trip to Hamilton. Show moved along nicely and there was no wasted time. For someone that has been entertaining for so many years, he surely did not disappoint any of his fans.

Charley Pride a legend in country music

by brilowood on 2009-07-10Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

Charley was a great entertainer. WE also enjoyed his son Dion as the opening act. I do have to say that we did find a few negative comments with regard to Hamilton Place. It was very warm in the auditorium. The entrance hallway before entering the theatre was much cooler than inside the auditorium. ALso noted were the many elderly people at this venue. They were having an extremely difficult time with stairs and having to leave walkers/wheelchairs on the main floor. I was quite surprised that there were not other provisions to help the elderly/disabled than a few staff, one who could barely speak English! Charley Pride is a class act.

    What a Showman!

by Dot41 on 2009-07-10Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

Charley Pride was absolutely fantastic - what a Showman! And we got to see the next generation too by hearing his son - great voice. Second row seats couldn't be beat because we got to see an entertainer who is completely genuine and loves what he does.
