Chicago Fire FC History

The Chicago Fire became one of Major League Soccer’s first expansion teams when it joined ahead of the 1998 season. The Fire pulled off one of the most impressive inaugural seasons across American professional sports when the new squad, coached under Bob Bradley, secured an 11-game winning streak and made a surprise playoff run that culminated in an MLS Cup Final win against the two-time defending champions, D.C. United (where Bradley previously worked as an assistant). One week later, Chicago completed the double-header with their first U.S. Open Cup championship.

The Fire found further success in the early aughts with Bradley and his successor Dave Sarachan, who helped the team secure three more U.S. Open Cup victories in 2000, 2003 and 2006. In addition, the Fire earned the Supporters’ Shield in 2003. All-Star forward Mike Magee became the first player to win the MLS MVP Award while representing Chicago in 2013.

Chicago Fire FC at Soldier Field

The Fire play their home games at Soldier Field, also home to the NFL's Chicago Bears. Opened in 1924, the stadium is the oldest active venue in American football. If you're in attendance, be sure to keep an eye out for the rowdy Section 8 Chicago supporters. With their tifos and chanting, they'll be hard to miss.

    Chilly but Fun

    by coachdb44 on 2015-10-10TOYOTA PARK - Bridgeview

Very cold and very windy game. Other than that, the seats were terrific and the atmosphere was incredible. Only watched half the game from my seat because it was wayy too windy and cold up there. Seats give a great view of the game so no issue with that. For a team that is long out of the playoffs, the fan support and the attendance was pleasantly surprisingly positive. Great stadium with not a single bad seat in the house. I would definitely recommend a fan to attend a Chicago Fire home game

my first trip to Toyota park from montreal was a great one. getting to see the home team win was an added bonus. the wind was really blowing but that didn't diminish the experience. It only enhanced it.

    Chicago Fire Game

by HugoH on 2010-04-27TOYOTA PARK - Bridgeview

Great game...even though rain and wind were there for the whole game The only disappointing part is the public transportation to get to the stadium...a total of 2 hours from the loop to get there and one and a half hour to get back!! The Chicago Fire Express was supposed to be free as stated on the webisite...but finally 1.75$ each time...YOU MUST REALLY LOVE SOCCER TO DO THIS.

    Best 16th Birthday Gift Ever!

by LoriB on 2009-09-08TOYOTA PARK - Bridgeview

We brought our daughter from Ottawa, Canada to Chicago to see a major league soccer game (Chicago Fire vs. L.A. Galaxy) as her 16th birthday present. We loved every minute of the game. The weather cooperated and the singing and chanting from the stands was very 'European'. Only two minor complaints. One was the expense and distance to get to the field from our downtown hotel. We taxied there and intelligently bussed and took the El back. Two, the fact that David Beckham had been red-carded in his previous game and did not even travel to Chicago! However, neither issue put a damper on the event.
