A great night, so much fun. Would definitely go back and see them again. A great night out!
On Saturday night, I went with friends to a musical experience called “Choir! Choir! Choir!”, at a sold-out NAC Southam Hall. I call it an experience because the focus of the evening was getting the audience to sing several songs by a number of different popular Icons focused on the works of Queen. It was a very high-energy experience. “Choir! Choir! Choir!”, is a Toronto-based duo, Daveed Goldman and Nobu Adilman have brought their musical experiences to audiences elsewhere, for example they were recently in Chicago and mentioned they would be appearing at the Edinburgh Fringe followed by a UK tour and dates in Guelph, Montreal and Burlington later this year. My only previous experience of them (although I have heard of them many times) was at the 105th Grey Cup game in Ottawa in November 2017. I remember them conducting us in the best rendition of O Canada by the audience ever. Each performance revolves around a couple of songs. Goldman sings and plays guitar, and Adilman, sings and conducts, teaching the song's arrangement to the participants, and culminating in a live performance of the song. At the Ottawa performance, we were divided into three sections. They taught us three songs by Queen: Fat-bottomed Girls; We Will Rock You!; And We Are the Champions. We also sang bits of other songs: Elton John’s original ‘Candle in the Wind’; John Denver’s ‘Country Roads,’ ( in honour of a couple who came all the way from Lynchburg, VA, to attend the concert with their relatives who flew up from Jacksonville, Fla.) ‘Like a Bird’ (by Nelly Furtado), and a verse or two of Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl and snatches of other songs which flashed by so quickly I don’t recall them. The evening was a success because the audience (mostly old farts like me), was singing loud and proud on its feet most of the evening. Sometimes we all were even singing together -- and mostly within the neighbourhood of the same key! However, I am really not a fan of Queen. Still, it was a memorable experience
Great show, can't wait for them to return to Ottawa!!
More than singing, Choir, Choir, Choir is a fantastic time. A thoroughly entertaining experience.
Discovered them on Facebook... what a FANTASTIC night! Can't remember the last time I had this much fun. We sang so many 80's song (theme of the night), laughed, and danced. Very entertaining and can't wait for them to come back!
This was one of the best events I’ve ever been to! Entertaining, funny and a great way to spend the evening with your friends!
The event needed a bit a more structure. Some of the oral instructions were not clearly expressed. Also some of the lyrics on the slides were confusing. Overall an enjoyable fun evening and would probably do it again!
Choir! Choir! Choir! is great entertainment. Nice to go to something that all ages can enjoy. My only complaint was standing on the sloped theatre floor for three hours. We all had a sore back by the time it was over.
I've been once before when the event was held at the Burton Cummings Theatre. Having seating available made all the difference. Having to stand for two hours straight was painful.
If you like to sing-a-long, this IS the experience for you. It was an absolutely enjoyable evening, the crowd was hyped up to sing, and Daveed and DaBu, the two entertainers, were very funny, playing off each other. We sang a lot of songs, and were taught harmony for Mamma Mia, which was videotaped for broadcast on their Facebook page. The tickets were $25 each, which made for an inexpensive evening out. Even if Abba is not a favorite group for you, the experience is definitely worth it. Don’t miss out on a chance to check out Choir!Choir!Choir!
Amazing show and loved singing along to Abba. A bigger venue with more seating options would have been appreciated.
Didn’t anticipate that we would be the Choir lol! Loads of laughs and positive vibes from our amazing hosts! Abba lives on!! Awesome to see teenagers mixed in with all of the 50+ crowd! So awesome!
Engaging and entertaining. Amazing way to spend an evening with friends, good for the heart and soul!
What an incredible and touching evening. This was my third CHOIRx3 and by far the most fun and moving. Daveed Goldman (who is a Montrealer)'s mom was in the audience and he dedicated some songs to her and to his dad who could not be there. As well, as a bonus at the end, he performed an original song dedicated to his wife which was AMAZING and I was hoping to find out where to hear it again. Belting ABBA out at the top of ones lungs is always good for the soul and doing it under the direction of Nobu (AKA DaBu) with hundreds of other fans made for an unforgettable evening. They are coming back in October and I will be there!
It was so much fun. I was amazed at the way they got the crowd singing and harmonizing and we actually sounded good! I also got a kick out of the banter between the two of them. It was a very enjoyable way to spend an evening and I’ll be first in line for tickets when they come back to Montreal.
We attended the Choir! Choir! Choir! show at the NAC in Ottawa a week ago and what a show it was. It was so wonderful to see Nabu and Daveed, and to once again sing with great abandon. They always put on a great show but this one seemed extra special after such a long hiatus. I cannot wait for the next show at the Shenkman Centre in December!
I've followed CCC online for a number of years now, but still wasn't exactly sure what to expect. What a perfect way to return to music and socializing in this 'almost Post COVID' world! So much joy and comradery...Nothing brings people together like music - and we need this so much right now! Thanks CCC for doing what you do in a time when it is needed more than ever. I'll be watching for your return to Ottawa in the fall for another mood booster!
Daveed and Nobu brilliantly bring music, comedy and passion together in this sing-along karaoke style event. So many smiling people singing their hearts out. My second CCC event did not disappoint!
The first half of the show at the NAC was terrific! They engaged the audience and it was fun! The second half where the duo was intent on filming a video (likely for promotional purposes) felt like it was no longer about the audience but about the video. It felt like we were being made to work and the engagement the duo had with the audience in the first half was lost. We were very anxious to leave.
*performers did not know their audience *too many personal inappropriate stories *getting drunk on stage :( *passive-aggressive comments *song chosen wasn't the best *show started strong, everyone was excited and eager then bang it went downhill..
