We decided to attend Chris, Mrs as our replacement Christmas entertainment, now that the Ross Petty show has come to an end. It is a pity that the Ross Petty group didn’t use its mailing list to promote this show.
The singing and dancing were all great. The songs and the writing were cute.
The reasons why I gave only a 4 rather than a 5 star review are:
- it was nearly impossible to find out the plot of the musical before watching the show. Just stating that the story was based on a Hallmark movie theme was a bit vague;
- the musical could have really benefitted from at least one really memorable tune. As soon as we left the theatre, none of us could remember a single tune;
- the box office let the production down. I booked our box seats months in advance, to keep all our 6 ft+ family members, and my 90 year old mom in a wheelchair, out of the way. Alas, when we got to the theatre, we went round the houses with tickets being reissued, suggestions to split our group up into two groups seated across the theatre from each other, etc. We got it sorted in the end, but could have done without the stress and leaving our mom, in her wheelchair, out on the street in the cold. Meanwhile, while our seats were being sorted, people were coming up and asking for rush tickets and being turned away. Given that we attended the final performance and, moreover, that there were many empty seats in the house, I would have thought that it would have made sense to have sold as many tickets as possible. It was New Years Eve and opening up more last minute rush seats for this particular performance may have made some peoples’ day.
In conclusion, Chris, Mrs. was an enjoyable seasonal treat.
