Honestly, I had literally no idea what I was getting myself into when I saw these tour tickets going on sale. Living in Halifax, Nova Scotia would also mean getting a plane ticket which also meant more money. And going back to not know what I was getting into, I literally just pulled the trigger and hoped for the best.
Well, in my opinion, and I think a lot of the die hard Conan fans will agree, that the show Conan put together at Massey Hall was one of the best nights and experiences I've ever had especially at such a large venue. Conan shrunk the room and really made it a very personal and intimate experience. Licking La Bamba's face really hit the nail in the intimate coffin as well.
The format of the show was such a great variety of music and comedy. It had a nice flow and it didn't drag at any points. Andy was hilarious coming out at one point wearing a horse costume slowly walking down a sun set type deserted rocky road cowboy scene on the back drop screen behind him.
The band was fantastic! Just on point, very entertaining and you could just tell they were having a great night.
Reggie Watts and Deon Cole were just both amazing and unique. Reggie started with I think 30 or 40 minute set which was a mix of comedy, hip hop, improv and vocal loops creating something incredibly unique %100 live and right in front of the sold out crowd. I'll admit that this was the first time I have heard of Watts, and I have to say that I'm an idiot and need to find just about anything he's put out so I can support him in any way possible. Dion was great. I remembered him on the Tonight Show calling Conan a pimp, so I knew before he told his first joke that he was going to be great. And he was. He came out, told a joke, and depending on the laughs, he'd write down on a piece of paper either a yes or no. Bottom line, very great, funny, and I think we'll be seeing a lot more of him after this tour.
I've read some reviews out there saying this show wasn't that great, and that might be to someone who isn't really as big of a fan as myself or anybody else who was crammed up on the third balcony seats enjoying every minute of it.
Conan is a huge inspiration to me, and this show solidified to me why he is the best in late night.
