Connecticut Sun History

The Connecticut Sun are an American professional basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Launched as the Orlando Miracle in 1999, the franchise was purchased in 2003 by the Mohegan Tribe, who became the first Native American tribe to own a professional sports team, and moved to their current home in Uncasville, Connecticut. The Sun have advanced to four WNBA Finals, in 2004, 2005, 2019 and 2022, and topped the Eastern Conference five times. Sun players have earned five All–WNBA First Team selections and two MVP awards, for Tina Charles in 2012 and Jonquel Jones in 2021. Since joining the Sun as a rookie in 2014, five-time All-Star Alyssa Thomas led the WNBA in steals in 2020 and continues to hold the league record for career triple-doubles. In 2023, the Connecticut Sun advanced to the postseason semifinals behind Thomas’ rebounding Peak Performer-winning play in the regular season.

Mohegan Sun Arena, home of the Connecticut Sun, sits inside the Mohegan Sun casino resort in Uncasville, Connecticut. The 9,323-seat facility opened in 2001 and has hosted a wide range of events from concerts to wrestling to bull riding. Mohegan Sun Arena has also held several WNBA Finals matches as well as WNBA All-Star games in 2005, 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2015.

    Great arena....but complicated to get there !

    In the middle of nowhere, without any form of indications towards the WNBA game or arena, it’s quite complicated to find the place if you never been there before....! Between casino’s, conference center and hotels, The Connecticut Sun should be indicated all over the place....but it’s nowhere to be found... Anyway, great game and great arena...once you find it.

    WNBA from the Front Row

    My seat was the front row of the stadium seating, as opposed to courtside. A perfect spot for someone with short legs, who can use the stadium seat surface for your feet, or for long leggged people, like the gentleman next to me, who could put his feet on the carpeted walkway. We were directly behind the TV announce table but there was no obstructed view, the volume was perfect and you were upclose. The arena is intimate so it's a perfect venue for the WNBA.
