I had the pleasure of seeing Delhi to Dublin last year around the Olympics, again at the Commodore...and they were much better at that time than they were this time around. They still put on a decent show, but seemed like they weren't quite as into the gig as their first time around at the Ballroom.
In last years performance, they had 5 female dancers (some Indian, some Caucasian) come out to perform the traditional dance from India to a very sensual mix of drum and bass India influenced song. It was amazing! I guess they couldn't find the dancers for this show, but it would've been great to see. I had brought a friend to this show and mentioned it as something to look forward to, and was disappointed when we didn't get to see it. It should be a staple as it really added another element to their show.
D2D has some great pumped up songs that can get you moving, but my beef with them has always been that they tend to have a lot of build up in their songs (which is great), but when the build up comes to it's climax, they back it right off to a nothing drum beat, and take all the momentum the song had leading to that moment. Let it explode when you build it up! The crowd wants it. Kinda lame, because any musician or audience member can recognize a good build up and proper flow to a song.
Obviously combining music from India and adding the Celtic influence is a unique and at times, harmonious blend of sounds. That's where they excel, with two violent violinists going hard adding to it. But really they just have about 3 or 4 songs that are in good harmony. The rest is mixed n match with not too much flow.
In summary, fun band to see because they are a unique sound...but can only sustain for a 4 or 5 songs. They'd be better suited fro festivals only.
