DIANA KRALL IN CONCERT

Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Diana Krall grew up on Vancouver Island in the western part of Canada and began studying the piano when she was four years old. By the time she was 15, she was playing jazz in local restaurants and bars.

Ms. Krall was still a teenager when she was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. After two years in Boston she moved to Los Angeles, where she first me her Jazz influences, including John Clayton, pianist/singer Jimmy Rowles, and Ray Brown, the legendary bassist who served as her musical mentor (and played on Only Trust Your Heart). Ms. Krall had lived in Los Angeles for three years when she then moved to Toronto, and it was a Canadian label that gave her a chance to record for the first time. In 1993, the Montreal-based Justin Time Records released her debut album, Stepping Out. In 1994, she signed with GRP and recorded Only Trust Your Heart, which featured Brown on bass and Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone and marked the beginning of her association with Tommy LiPuma (who has worked with everyone from Barbra Streisand to George Benson).

Diana Krall is the only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. To date, her albums have garnered five Grammy® Awards, 10 Juno® Awards and have also earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable and beloved artists of our time.

    Great Montreal Jazz Festival concert

    by B. P. on 2023-07-06

Diana’s Place des Arts concert was excellent, she played to a full house. The musicianship was stellar and the setlist was a good mix of jazz standards, with a stunning nod to Leonard Cohen.

by Hammer on 2019-09-15Chateau Ste Michelle Winery - Woodinville

Started great but 1/2 way through the show it was called off on account of rain..... very disappointed in how it turned out despite how it started...... looking forward to seeing her again in a drier venue!!

The show was good, no more.

by Delsha on 2018-02-04Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

The music and the musicians were excellent. Too little song on the part of Diana Krall. The show was good, no more.

Diana better in a smaller venue

by DoJe on 2017-12-11Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Diana Krall never disappoints her hometown fans. Her selection of covers was excellent, suited to her style. her backup combo was superb. At times the background screen images were distracting. I was disappointed that there were no giant screens for the audience to view her hands on the piano and her face. I would not attend another DK concert in the QE; it is too big a venue. The Orpheum is a much friendlier, more intimate environment.

    Classy evening

by Studmuffin on 2017-12-11Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

This was one of my favourite concerts of all time. She was classy, sophisticated, in fine voice, and her four musicians were equally brilliant. If I had any small criticism it was her between-songs patter which was minimal - it certainly didn't mar the evening, but she's so lovely and charming it might have been nice to hear a bit more from her. This was her final concert of the tour, her family were in attendance, and all the musicians were in fine form. Highly recommended

    Diana Krall-Exceptional

by CottageGuy on 2017-12-05National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I was expecting Diana Krall to be very good as she's got a great voice. She did not let me down. Love to see her play that piano also and I was lucky to be near the front. What I was more surprised at was just how good a band she has. They are absolute professionals and just so talented. They are so into the music they play and you can tell they all just love it. What a show they put on.

    Something was wrong

by Vanguard2001 on 2017-12-05National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Having been to several Diana Khrall performances, I was anticipating a wonderful evening at the NAC. She was 15 minutes late to the stage and when she appeared it became quickly obvious that something was not up to par. She seemed disoriented and upon starting the first song, the band took over for almost the entire song. Many people in front of us were whispering. As she went through the repertoire she sang a bit more on each song and started talking to the audience. At one point she messed up the words in her own song! The 4 piece band was excellent but I paid $125 to hear Diana Khrall sing not spend 80% of the performance listening to the band. The show was a waste of money and my time.

    Not what I expected

by Babbsboyle on 2017-12-05National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Musicians were definitely incredible. However I didn't realize that she wouldn't be doing a lot of her own songs. The constant solos from the musician, although showcasing their talent, got a bit stale. When she was doing a solo song with her piano or when they all played together & she sang, it was amazing.
