About
South African rave rap group Die Antwoord catapulted to overnight success when their edgy music video for 2010 single “Enter The Ninja” went viral. The video was perfect for viral success, looking like an punk art project, but it also had high-quality production, deft rapping and a highly danceable backing track. It's a mix that earned the band a growing cult following and propelled it to a pair of internationally acclaimed albums and concerts with sold out tickets around the world. On the 2013 European tour, the scene was somewhere between a hip-hop show, a rave and a gonzo comedy routine full of frenetic energy, intense dance music and lots of thrusting. On stage, Die Antwoord blasted through an hour and a half of music, including its latest, “Cookie Thumper!” The shows are a visual treat too, with the tattooed co-lead singer Ninja half-naked and wearing a mask fit for a horror movie villain and the other lead Yo-landi Vi$$er sporting bright pink hot pants and pitch-black contact lenses.
As the frontman for MaxNormal.TV and The Constructus Corporation, Ninja has been a member of the South African hip-hop scene for years, but he’s said that all of that was just preparation for the madness that is Die Antwoord. After the international viral success of “Enter The Ninja,” Die Antwoord decided to strike out on its own, independently releasing its 2011 sophomore album, "Ten$Ion," which debuted at No. 20 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Chart and spawned the popular single “Fatty Boom Boom.” In 2013, they followed that up with “Cookie Thumper!," the first single off a third album called "Donker Mag." Die Antwoord's unique style and dynamic energy will continue to please new and old fans alike.

Rating: 5 out of 5 One of the best concerts
by Uglyboy on 2017-08-30UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - VancouverThis was one the best concerts I've been to in a long time. Die Antwoord had great showmanship and you could tell they wanted to be there. I've been to other concerts and you can tell that when the performer is there just for a payday. Not the case with Die Artwoord, they interacted with fans between and during songs, they had variety of costume changes, and their background screens had a new take on them I've never seen before. I liked how the two back up dancers had unlimited energy during the songs, plus their different outfits were cool. It tops my list for best show for the price of the ticket. It was affordable and it was entertaining. It just goes to show you don't have to charge tons for a ticket for a great concert.

by Jjunie on 2012-11-03The Sound Academy - Toronto, Ontario, CanadaI wasn't a very big fan of Die Antwoord before the show but I did like a few of their singles. A friend and I thought: "Why not?" Boy, am I glad we went! There was so much crazy energy in the room that I've only seen in very few shows. They sounded fantastic and played a great set of older and newer hits. Will I go again? HELL YES!

by Ararana on 2010-10-14Commodore Ballroom - VancouverGreat show, once it finally got started. We were wondering if they were having too much fun in the champagne bar to bother to turn up for the gig....but it was worth the wait! This show basically defined "high energy" and whether you dig the music or not you gotta admit they know how to serve it up.

by LACHIQUICHACALA on 2010-10-14Commodore Ballroom - VancouverSo far this show pumped up the audience so much, that the crowd were euphoric all night, something rare to see in ANY vancouver concert, that is how good it was.
