Distant Worlds Music from Final Fantasy ~ Amazing!

by Yuna on 2010-11-29Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Distant Worlds music from Final Fantasy was absolutely amazing. Arnie Roth and Nobuo Uematsu were fantastic, as were the other performers. The London Orchestra was outstanding as well. Very well paced, full of fan favourites, and the right mix of interaction with the audience.

I really enjoyed the show. I think the fan art was fantastic, and I was really happy with the performance of Maria and Draco. I would recommend perhaps some light effects to add to the mood of the show, it seemed a bit lackluster in that department. The video screen added lots to the show and I think it should have been a little larger. The footage was superb, but the variety of music was dissapointing. I really wanted to hear more Final Fantasy IV music, and I don't think any was really addressed. Matoyas theme, would have been nice to hear too....Melodies of Life was my #1 hopeful and it wasn't played at all either. I suppose its tough with a 2 hour show to fit lots of the favorite music in, but perhaps when the show receives more fame and prestige, it will be longer to allow for more variety. I really 4/5 is my rating! Great work Arnie Roth and orchestra!

    The ultimate concert

by Squall on 2010-11-29Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

This was by far the event that I was waiting for. Truly an unforgettable event filled with plenty of nostalgia, and good memories. The music was spectacular, and the performance was flawless. I hope that this event gets repeated in Toronto again, because it is truly something magical.

    Distant Worlds a must see

by Ozma on 2010-11-29Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

The show was amazing, better then i could ever of expected. The music and the video all go well together, and makes for an even better experience overall. I think alot of people hesitate or don't go because its game based, but any one who loves music, and appreciates a more classical // orchestral feel should go regardless of the game aspect, you wont regret it at all. Cant wait to go again.

Distant Worlds is truly the best of FF music!!!

by YuriX on 2010-11-29Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Nobuo Uematsu - scored! Arnie Roth was unforgettable! The whole experience was one truly fantastic night. You can almost forget that you are in the Sony Centre; it feels like you’re in a distant world of wonders and imagination. “Swing de Chocobo” makes you smile; everything is possible for you during “Fisherman's Horizon”, no one can stand in your way while “Opening - Bombing Mission” is playing; "Terra's theme" makes your heart ache for more and last but not least, “One-Winged Angel” inspires your entire soul to great marvels and achievements! SEPHIROTH! Let’s not forget the fantastic videos! A warm wave of nostalgia and true delight sweeps thru your body when you see those so recognizable images on the screen. Bravo! Two words: Inspiring and Epic!!!

Distant Worlds is an experience to behold!

by WarriorSTH on 2010-11-29Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

This was an awesome event and it was an honor for Square-Enix to come to Toronto and perform these orchestrated versions of classic Final Fantasy themes. From Opening: Bombing Mission, to Terra's Theme, each theme and medley will definitely bring out some nostalgic memories of the trials and tribulations of many of Square-Enix's illustrious characters. The Kitchener-Waterloo band was sensational; you could clearly tell that they have worked excessively hard to master and perform some of the most complex themes, such as One Winged Angel and Battle of the Big Bridge. As an added bonus, famed composer, Nobuo Uematsu made an appearance and sang with the choir for One Winged Angel! This is an event that I highly recommend to anyone who's a fan of Final Fantasy and to someone who clearly enjoys orchestrated, live performances in general.

A memorable experience for any long-time FF fan

by slydeman000 on 2010-11-29Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I am very happy to have been part of this event. Sitting about 9-10 rows from the front, and dead center, I sat 20 feet away from Nobuo Uematsu himself! Arnie Roth was an excellent conductor/MC/performer for the evening, and the majority of the arrangements were very well done. I did have a few gripes about the event: the percussionists in the Kitchener-Waterloo Orchestra were very sloppy, so the point where their rhythm/timing was dragging down the rest of the orchestra. Other than that, the actual performance was very well executed. I personally didn't enjoy the vibrato/intonation of the female vocalist during "Maria and Draco". There was a minor slip that the pianist made during "Clash on the Big Bridge" during his descending piano line the first time around. I know, I'm being super nit-picky about all this, but when you play $125 for a concert, you expect top-notch instrumentalists! Overall, it was an unforgettable experience. I really liked hearing the battle theme from Final Fantasy XIII (as well as my favourites from the more classic entries from the series), but I wish they would have played something from Final Fantasy XII, the only game that they didn't play a piece from...! Highly recommended for any long-time Final Fantasy fan/musician/enthusiast.

    Distant Worlds was amazing!

by maiZe on 2010-11-29Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

If you're a fan of the Final Fantasy series, and music lover, this is definitely something to watch. Hearing the unforgettable and epic music of the dearly loved video games played by a full orchestra and sung by a full choir was just indescribable. If you're not a fan of the series, the music is undoubtedly beautiful and I recommend it either way, but if you've played the games, the emotional attachment you feel as you listen is amazing.

The performers were excellent. However, if you're looking for a classy/sophisticated event this might not be for you. There are clips of game play in the background and quite a few people are noisy during the show. Bottom line is that it was an event meant for fans of the game.

    Great performance of memorable music.

by Snowdemonz on 2010-11-29Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

the event contained a great arrangement of music from final fantasy. Fan favorites were performed well, however there were occasions when the choir drowned out the vocal soloist . Overall these issues are minor as the performance, the arrangement and the venue led to an enjoyable and entertaining evening.

by DanielL on 2010-11-29Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Incredible performance by Arnie Roth and his orchestra. I've seen quite a few orchestra by now and this one was by far the best performance I've ever seen, it was full of energy and it was moving. A must see!

    Excellent Experience, Excellent Memories!

by RiskbreakerDragoon on 2010-11-29Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

The venue was great, the atmosphere was both professional and relaxed and the musicians were amazing. The special guest performers they had during some of the songs really helped to elevate some of the performance into something very, very special. The program also played into the whole theme of Final Fantasy music with special easter eggs throughout the night, much to the surprise and delight of much of the audience. If they have another event like this, I would COMPLETELY recommend it. About the only draw-back is that I had to drive a few hours to get there, but I'm glad to say that it was worth it. Ever penny. Thanks Square-Enix!

Final Fantasy Distant Worlds, take me away again!

by Rydia on 2010-11-29Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I've been a big fan of Nobuo Uematsu since grade school when I started playing Final Fantasy. I adore his music, and when I found out an FF symphony was in the city, I had to go. The performance itself was AMAZING. Being there, hearing the music, sitting by Nobuo Uematsu - that's an experience I will never forget. It was wonderful to be there with so many other fans, and such a diverse age range too, music really does bring people together. I hope Distant Worlds returns to Toronto soon. What I loved: 1. Nobuo Uematsu was RIGHT THERE - so awesome 2. Arnie Roth was personable, and I liked how he introduced every couple of songs 3. The quality of the music was fantastic, I am now a fan of Kitchener-Waterloo orchestra 4. Seeing game play footage brought back fond memories What could have been better: 1.Venue complaints: leg room was cramped (and I'm short), poor crowd control to enter the auditorium and to buy souvenirs, not enough washroom stalls. The venue seat map was very inaccurate, the location of my seat was much different from what the map promised. 2. Dress code: before the performance, I checked the Sony Centre's website, the Distant Worlds website, and their FaceBook pages, but couldn't find any information on what standard dress was. In the lobby I heard several groups wondering the same thing. I felt bad for the people in jeans who looked uncomfortable with their choice, glad I stuck to dressy clothes. 3. Event was not advertised well. I only found out about it by chance. 4. Ticket prices were steep. 5. Camera policy - I read that no cameras were allowed, so I left mine at home, only to find hundreds of people brought theirs, and they were filming. Venue staff told some people near me to stop filming, other people weren't interrupted. Why? I wish camera policy had been more clear, I would have brought mine. 6. No concert program available, and what was advertised on Distant World's FaceBook page wasn't accurate, some songs were dropped, some were added - it was great to hear new music, but I wish they had played "Love theme " from FF IV. 7. The footage on the projector was not the best, there were times when no footage played at all, and other times where the same footage kept repeating, like the Chocobo song. There is enough FF game play footage to prevent this, it seems like whoever put the video together was lazy.

    Distant Worlds, simply amazing

by OBlade on 2010-11-29Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I'm not a huge FF fan, I haven't played all the games or paid much attention to the music. But damn, this is one of the best concerts I've been to. It's just so different from the usual concerts you go to, it's an actual formal symphony-orchestra type of deal, but the music is so deep and resonating even if you hear it for the first time. The visuals are great too. It's just very impressive in every way, an absolute don't miss for just anyone who's into anything.

One of the most beautifully played concerts

by PhoenixXIII on 2010-11-29Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I will never forget this night, it was truly an homage to Nobuo Uematsu and his work with Final Fantasy, and the series itself. Every song was played perfectly in time, breathtakingly playing each melody in a way words can not describe, and left you wanting more. As well each piece was accented with video coverage from the games for added pleasure to true fans of the series. I can not forget this night, everything was just amazing to display in words, there is no caliber as to how much you will enjoy this concert, even if you do not know what Final Fantasy is. You must go to this concert if you ever get the chance, PLEASE DO.
