About

2013 saw a double release for Dream Theater: a self-titled studio album and Live at Luna Park, an album that features material taken from the band's A Dramatic Turn of Events tour in 2012. This latter release is a treat, featuring two DVDs and three CDs of material that highlights the prog metal theatrics delighting ticket buyers for over 25 years. These theatrics revolve around the band's consummate artistry. Dream Theater's prog roots compel them to focus on musical craftsmanship as the driving force of their performance. However, serious musicianship is not without its spark of playfulness. A love of quirky humor often pops up when the band performs in concert. It's not uncommon for ticket buyers to be pleasantly surprised by alternating set lists, musical quotes and spontaneous bursts of improvisation. Members of the band have even swapped instruments mid-set just to keep things fresh.

Dream Theater's newest, self-titled album contains all the elements that make the band stand out among their peers. The opening, "False Awakening Suite," sets a cinematic tone for the rest of the tracks. The hard-driving "The Enemy Inside" invokes shades of classic Iron Maiden, yet with Dream Theater's own unique twist. The band has been going hard and strong since 1985, when three music school graduates started the band as a tribute to their heroes. Armed with a stack of potent demos, they hit the NYC circuit, shopping tapes and strengthening their live act. Each new album chronicles their steady artistic progression, as constant touring helps to keep things fresh and their musicianship alive. Dream Theater's music is a lively blend of heavy metal and prog rock, with jazz and classical elements thrown in for a healthy amount of spice.

  • Fantastic performance

by Leeum on 2025-03-19Coca-Cola Coliseum - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I hadn't seen Dream Theater in over 15 years so this was a monumental occasion for me. They absolutely did not disappoint! Everyone's performance was incredible, not a note missed or a wrong note hit that I could hear. The sound was very well mixed, everything came through the PA clearly, and surprisingly wasn't too loud. Of course it was loud being a big concert but not tinnitus inducing, kudos to the sound guys! Also the light show was really cool, especially during Johns guitar solo I really liked the color spread they had around him. I cannot wait to see them again, 10/10!

  • Incroyable!!!!!

  • Majestic

The band started on time. Gave the best performance I've seen. Every single one of the musicians were committed and connected with the crowd. Venue was okay, just seating arrangement was not properly done I had seats in front row but they were on the side and way off the stage.

  • Dream Theatre were outstanding but not the venue

by Youn on 2025-03-15Coca-Cola Coliseum - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Attending Dream Theater’s 40th Anniversary Tour was a dream come true. The band’s performance was nothing short of spectacular. Each member showcased exceptional talent, with Petrucci and Portnoy standing out as world-class musicians. Their live renditions added depth and energy beyond the studio recordings. However, the venue, Coca-Cola Coliseum, left much to be desired. Designed primarily for hockey events, its suitability for concerts is questionable. The small, plastic seats were uncomfortable, especially over the three-hour performance. Additionally, the stage setup required approximately 80% of the audience to turn their heads to one side for the entire show, leading to discomfort and, in my case, neck pain. While Dream Theater delivered an unforgettable performance, the venue’s shortcomings significantly impacted the overall experience. I hope future concerts at Coca-Cola Coliseum address the setup issues to ensure a more comfortable environment for attendees.

  • It was really amazing

The entire event itself was very well organized, people were willing to help, the sound in the place was very good, well equalized, the acoustics of the place are not bad, the band was perfect as always.

  • Dream Theater 40th anniversary

by Donna on 2025-03-14Coca-Cola Coliseum - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

AMAZING. Everything about it. I am still in concert hangover. Venue bathrooms were clean and well kept on the Women's side, but the prices of confectionary / food and drink are steep. The concert itself was bar none, the best so far. Loved every minute.

  • No Live Experience like it

by Herman vb on 2025-03-14Coca-Cola Coliseum - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

I can't think of any other band coming close to what Dream Theater is able to pull off. This was my sixth time seeing them live. They're an amazing group of geniuses playing progressive music that would give other band members aneurisms due to the complexities.
