About

Edmonton Folk Music Festival coolest place to be in August

Vibrant ... dramatic ... colorful... and friendly. When describing the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, musicians and patrons are unanimous. This year’s edition promises to be all that and more for the Edmontonians, visitors, and volunteers who will claim their patch of grass on the hill at Gallagher Park to listen and move to the beat of more than 60 music-makers from the four corners of the globe.
Whether you come to listen to music, reconnect with old friends, or join the army of volunteers who keep the festival running, this family-friendly event has become world renowned since it was started in 1980.

Children 11 and under and seniors over 80 are admitted at no charge.

Need to align the beer gardens set up closer to interstellar rodeo. You can’t enjoy the music from there.

    Go for the music

by AmyC on 2018-08-16Gallagher Park - Edmonton

Be prepared. Be prepared. Be. Prepared. We went on the rainiest day of the entire festival and had a great time listening to the music, though there's always room for improvement! The music and lineups were amazing, so wonderful to hear all of these artists singing their hearts out in the rain with us. The smoking areas are on the awful side, so if you're with smokers, best to actually leave the grounds for your smoke and then re-enter. It's a shame when people who smoke are tucked away in corners where they are unable to enjoy any of the festival. Food is pricey, so either eat at home or bring your own snacks/meals. The portions at the festival look large, so it might be worthwhile. (Don't forget to bring your own dishes!) Be advised you will likely have to take your food to your seat as there are not many places to sit and eat (picnic tables, etc.) All in all, we had a really lovely time; mostly due to the music and artists. We didn't do much shopping (since it was raining), though we wish we had!

The Edmonton folk fest needs to bring in a few more big headliners to stay relevant and compete for our time and money. There has been a bit of a drought in that department for the last couple of years. I have been going for +25 years and will continue to go as long as I am able however I see the effect that the lack of a strong headliner has in regards to the enthusiasm my 20something kids have for going. Thank you

    Bring back the greats

by DazedNconfused on 2018-08-14Gallagher Park - Edmonton

As a longtime attendee I have grown increasingly disappointed with the lack of big main stage performers at the Folk Fest. Why even bother to have a main stage? And why do patrons have to sit in a fenced corral to drink a beer? Ridiculous.

    Solid right through

by fanfromedmonton on 2018-08-13Gallagher Park - Edmonton

The festival staff really had it together. The performers were good. Buffy made me happy to know there is somebody willing to speak out! Wish Ry Cooder could have played longer.

FF attendees are changing - in a negative way

by docs on 2018-08-13Gallagher Park - Edmonton

The music was great but our faith in FF attendees was shattered. Saturday one of our chairs was stolen. On Sunday, the newly replaced chair was also stolen, along with our tarp and a bag containing a new waterproof blanket. Seems like opportunists took advantage of the weather as it was too cumbersome to carry stuff around in the rain all day. I would seriously use a secured storage facility now. Otherwise someone will have to "guard the tarp" at all times. Will cost me at least $400 to replace the stolen stuff. We have been attending FF for almost 20 years and no one has ever taken anything off of our tarp before. Very disappointing.

    Organization is key

by Anonymous on 2018-08-13Gallagher Park - Edmonton

Purchased tics online. Was required to wait in general tic sales line for 45 min to pick up my tickets. They did not reference my digital copy and had to present photo ID. Still using manual file folders and paper tics. Waste of time

    First-time Festival Goer!

by JDawkins on 2018-08-13Gallagher Park - Edmonton

As a first-time festival goer, I was very impressed with this event. The volunteers were approachable, friendly, and very helpful. The grounds layout made for easy navigation to all the sites and vendors. The schedule of events gave ample opportunity to see (and re-see) new and favorite artists. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to expand my listening pleasure to a few new groups I had never heard of before. I am one of the converted now. Thanks Edmonton Folk Festival - well done!!

    My 4th Folk Fest

by Bowanqi on 2018-08-12Gallagher Park - Edmonton

Folk Fest this year was great as has always been my experience. The only thing putting a damper on things was smoke from forest fires and weather extremes. Neither of those things are within our control and you just have deal with it. It is too bad things were either scorching hot or soaking wet and cold.
