My wife and I extremely enjoyed the elizabeth Shepherd trio. She's probably our favourite Toronto act.
Overall the show was good. I enjoyed the atmosphere and once again was not disappointed by event management by the volunteers of the Suite. The group performed alot of great songs, there were some points that were long. But this is expected in live music. I was impressed by the drummer Chris Dave. The tribute to Kurt Cobain was a nice touch.
Overall the show was good. The group performed many great pieces. I would say that some parts of the performance were long, but this is to be expected in live music. Was impressed by the drummer Chris Dave, I believe it was. The group also performed a encore song, which was a good end to a nice evening.
A wonderful lyrical pianist and a very tight quartet. Interesting original music.
Sillanpaa always seems to surround herself with appropriately talented artists, including herself as, both as technicians as well as writers and/or arrangers. The only possible flaw would be the percussion being a decibel over comfort, depending on the venue. General impression: Highly recommended.
This small club deserves a big name. They were positively wonderful, friendly, and passionate. It is run by volunteers from the Edmonton Jazz Society, so they all love what they do. The bar has lots of cool drinks, and the stage is close and cozy. There were lots of empty seats, so you don't need to arrive too far in advance. I plan to go every weekend I'm in town!
One of the better jazz trio's around, roll that in with a string Quartet and some mean solo's...Awesome!
Congrats to Dave & his band. Very enjoyable evening
The band was a great mix of jazz, blues, and some motown influences... exceptional artists A great intro to the Edmonton music scene! Really fabulous venue too... be warned, it fills up FAST.
Obsessions is a wonderful combination of Jazz and classical musicians. This concert featured the music of the great Stan Getz and it was brilliantly done. I can't wait for Obsessions to perform again!
I like that Jaclyn gave an intro to her songs. She did not go on and on, very brief, but a nice touch.
Rick Holmstrom marches to his own blues drummer (and what a drummer--Stephen Hodges)! The set started with a blistering guitar duo between Rick and Jeff Turmes (bass, sax, guitar, vocals). This trio puts their own very tasty spin on blues/roots standards and originals by both Holmstrom and Turmes. It's no wonder Mavis Staples uses these guys as her touring and recording (Grammy winning) band. A must see.
Music and setting was great. They should make the club into a business, and serve appitizers (not just popcorn). For 25$/ ticket, it would have been nice to have that option.
A great delight to see all these talented musicians come together for this concert.
This was one of the best concerts I have attended in a long time. If I'd had the opportunity, I would have gone to see them again the next night! A beautiful mix of talent and artistry combined with natural, personable showmanship. Stefan Grappelli & Django Reinhardt would have been proud to have been so well represented!
It was fantastic to watch the mastery of Amos, as he was bending the strings of his guitar, to watch his fingers moving up and down the guitar and to hear the sounds that he so confidently was able to creat.. it was awesome..
Thanks so much for a phenomenal weekend of jazz to honour Craig Magill's contribution to the jazz community.
It was the first time we had ever been to the Yardbird suite, and did we hit it lucky or what..Just amazing. I was moved to tears for the first bit, worth way more than we were charged. Fantastic overall.
Fantastic, although it became a rather long afternoon. But the talent on that stage, for both bands, was amazing.
A great evening of jazz. The Yardbird ensemble were most engaging - great melodies, song choices. Magill All Stars were strong, but highly technical. Excellent venue and vibes.
