About

Australian electro-pop duo Empire of the Sun possess a well-proven ability to entertain. Known for their epic performances chock-full of production value and artistic flare, the band treated fans to one of the most exciting and synergistic concert experiences of the 2013 summer festival circuit. Accompanied on stage by a troupe of costumed dancers and state-of-the-art visuals, Empire of the Sun wowed ticket holders across the US and Europe with their energetic sets of danceable hits like "Alive" from 2013's Ice on the Dune.

Empire of the Sun began as the side project of musicians Luke Steele of The Sleepy Jackson and Nick Littlemore of Pnau.  With the success of their 2008 debut album Walking on a Dream, the project became a focal point for the duo, resulting in their first live performances as a band in 2009. In 2013, their sophomore album Ice on the Dune reached No. 3 in Australia and No. 20 on the US Billboard 200, with lead single "Alive" receiving the remix treatment by some of the world's top DJs including David Guetta, Zedd and DJ Tiesto. With their electrifying performance style, adrenalized synths, and electro beats, the duo is not afraid to push the limits of showmanship, leaving fans eager for their 2014 performances.

    white noise

    by Karl321 on 2013-10-25Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Worst show I have been to. Could not hear the individual lines of the vocals and instruments. The sounds all mashed together in a deafening slurry. If you weren't familiar with the recordings beforehand, you would never have known what the musicians were trying to do. Surprising since most of it was prerecorded so it should have been all sorted out.

Empire of the Sun exceeded our expectations!

    by Seoc18 on 2013-10-24The Orpheum - Vancouver

6 of us went to this event, I encouraged them that this would be a show that shouldn't be missed. We all were won over by the performance! The Orpheum was a more intimate venue for them and allowed us an amazing experience! To top the evening off, we were walking home later, when we bumped into Luke Steele getting aboard his bus to travel to the next show in Seattle. He took the time to chat with us, and posed for pictures. He was patient, approachable, and down to earth. We really appreciated that he took the time to be humble and treat us with kindness instead of being swept up in fame. I am now their number 1 advocate for the Vancouver scene! One of the best shows EVER!!!!!!!!!!1

    AMAZING EXPERIENCE!

by DRose on 2013-10-24Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I went with a co-worker and my girlfriend and the night was UNFORGETTABLE! Luke Steele is an amazing musician as well as entertainer! You will not be bored throughout the whole concert with an array of epic lights that work with the music and dancers who change outfits every song. Live band as well so it adds to the already amazing sound!

    Coachella sized sound beyond Orpheum

by Ditavonbossypants on 2013-10-23The Orpheum - Vancouver

The latest offering doesn't match their strong showing a few years ago. But after a glimpse of the EoS stage presence at Coachella 2011, I wanted to capture that feeling again. Alas, you cannot go back. Their sound has outgrown the Orpheum. Think of a Broadway musical version of Tron with a stellar combination of confetti and pride parade, six degrees of hipsters, and sound suited for a night club rather than old lady dress-up theatre. Post encore, my hearing returned after 5 minutes, so I'm not that old. Yet. We were in the dress circle left, wondering if the balcony would collapse over the patrons below. If you want to be surrounded by bright lights, so loud that it rattles your chest cavity and internal organs sound, saggy denim assed hipster hip shakes, and atari inspired images of brain scans, this is it. If you like 2-3 songs like me, then I'm not sure $20 per song is necessarily worthwhile.

    Great Night!

by Paganmary on 2013-09-12The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

I went with my kids (20 and up) to see the show. I always try to encourage them to see live music especially bands that are alternative and not top 40. I grew up in the time of Ultravox, Japan, Orchestral Manoevres, Simple Minds etc. Empire of the Sun know how to entertain the crowd and bring everyone to their feet! You know you have seen a great show when the next day....you just feel happy and ALIVE!

Empire of the Sun was just incredible

by LisaCat on 2013-09-12The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

I can't believe I got to see them live, no words to describe how complete I feel now. I can't wait to see them again if I ever get the chance. The show was so well put together and of course my favorite parts have to be when Luke interacted with the audience, I was so so thrilled to hear all my favorite songs (half mast, we are the people, concert pitch, ice on the dune, surround sound, swordfish hotkiss night, walking on a dream etc). Looking back on it and going through the videos I took, I actually get depressed because it's over and that beautiful world Luke takes you into is gone. I'm already awaiting their next project.

    Great Show

    by bryguy76 on 2011-09-15Sound Academy - Toronto

Empire of the Sun was a great show. They put on a whole show rather than sitting on the stage and letting only their music entertain you. They had so many props and backup dancers.
