About

Rock group Evanescence, initially formed in 1994 by Amy Lee and Ben Moody, released three EPs before the end of the ‘90s and an album called Origin. By 2002 they were signed to Wind-Up Records and expanded the line-up to include musicians John LeCompt, Will Boyd and Rocky Gray. In 2003 they released their first official album, Fallen, which sold over 15 million copies.

Evanescence released a live album, Anywhere But Home, in 2004. This was followed by Open Door in 2006, which sold one million copies in its first week. The band then waited five years to release their third album, the self-titled Evanescence. The band has toured extensively across the world. Their 2012 world tour took in a number of dates in the UK, South America , North America, Australia, China, Japan and Indonesia.

The band has received five Grammy nominations and has won two awards — for Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance. Other accolades for the band include a Los Premios MTV award, a MTV Australia Video Music Award, a NRJ Music Award, two Teen Choice Awards and a World Music Award. Amy Lee was awarded the National Music Publishers' Association's Songwriter Icon Award in 2008.

The band’s line-up has varied with a number of members leaving at various stages in their history. One of the founding members, Ben Moody, left in the middle of their European tour in 2003. He was replaced by Terry Balsamo. In 2005, Will Boyd also left, with Tim McCord joining in 2006. During their 2007 tour, John LeCompt was fired and Rocky Gray decided to quit. These two members were replaced by Troy Lawham and Will Hunt.

Evanescence's lead singer Amy Lee has worked on a number of other projects. Her version of “Sally's Song†was included on the soundtrack for Disney's The Nightmare Before Christmas. Her collaborations with other artists have included Korn's “Freak on a Leash†single and Seether's Broken, which was featured on the soundtrack for The Punisher. She has also performed on tracks for David Hodges, Big Dismal and The Damning Well.

Soft, yet heavy: a visceral combination.

    by Mr. WindUp on 2023-03-16

As soon as I found out they were coming back to Toronto I knew what I had to do: engage in decadent consumerism at the type of venue that throws out your water bottle and then charges $6.00 for a new one. I had to attend, there was no escaping this encounter: the Bring Me To Life™ girl is back, here to jump out a window and land on your heart! 🖤 With tracks from 2003 to 2021: this experience is a testament to the group's extensive discography. It was exciting, emotional, and quite flashy. I had a good time: loudly counting down to the start of "Broken Pieces Shine" was deeply satisfying, even if I was the only one doing it. Not really sure what could've made the performance better, other than hiring a full-time rapper; but I'm not about to tell Evan how to run her business. She's got a big stage presence, and I hope she gets even bigger! Just promise me when you visit Toronto again in the year 2035: you negotiate yourself a longer time-slot, okay Evan?

Great concert, frustrating getting to the venue

by JordanN on 2018-09-10White River Amphitheatre - Auburn

Overall the concert was amazing, I loved it. That is, I love the part of the concert I was able to watch. After leaving Seattle at a time that I should have arrived at the concert about 15-20 minutes early, I ended up being REALLY late. The traffic on the country roads around the venue caused by the concert-goers made me over an hour late. I would have been even later but I got out of my car and walked the last mile past the cars sitting still trying to get into the parking lot. I think I probably missed only 5 or 6 songs though, so it must have started late. Maybe I would have known better if I lived in the area. The music for the concert was wonderful. These are 2 of my favourite artists and they put on an exciting show. My only complaint would have been the lack of guitar/bass in songs like "Bring Me To Life" which seemed less powerful with mostly just the orchestra accompanying Amy's vocals.

Two shows - one was great!!

    by Coringa25 on 2018-08-04Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Lindsey Stirling and Evanescence shared the stage. Lindsey was fantastic and she used the stage and symphony to their full extent. If I could rate just Lindsey, I would rate her 5 stars. Evanescence on the other hand was a let down. I understand that she was going a different direction with the symphony - a far more classical sound than before. It just didn't work for me - was really hoping for the heavier rock sound that I came to love. Sadly, that wasn't the case and I actually left early.

    Evanescence Toronto Rocked!

by McMiracle on 2018-07-31Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Lidnsey Sterling opened the show and put a great performance for an act that has no singing. Beautiful show with the imaging and dancers. Then Evanescence hit the stage! This was my third time seeing Evanescence but with the full orchestra, and Amy Lee's voice being on spot, this was the best I've seen them. Come back again soon!

Lindsey : Stirling amazing Evanescence : meh!

by Vavish on 2018-07-31Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Lindsey Stirling was amazing. Evanescence really not what it used to be. Guitarists were sitting and seemed really bored as the orchestra was taking all the place. Will definitely not go back see an Evanescence concert.

    Vocals on point... however...

by erikastephaniedawn on 2018-07-31Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Let me start by saying that I am an enormous fan of Amy Lee’s talent- her voice is ethereal, out of this world, and utterly breathtaking. This show was no different than any other I’ve seen her perform at. However, I did find that this show just didn’t meet my expectations... I had come fully expecting a rock show- and when Lindsey Stirling killed her opening act, I was eagerly anticipating the rock opera stylings of Evanescence. Sadly, it seems they chose to leave the rock element at home this time... which was kind of a bummer. We found it’s a little draggy compared to previous shows.
