FLOGGING MOLLY IN CONCERT:
For nearly two decades, Flogging Molly has melded punk and Irish musical traditions to achieve a rollicking sound that's the perfect accompaniment to a night on the town. The Los Angeles seven-piece has made a name for themselves as a rip-roaring live act, treating fans to an intoxicating combination of furious fiddling, breakneck drumming, and sing-along choruses. Whether fans are looking to dance a jig, learn a new drinking song, or just mosh their brains out, Flogging Molly always delivers the goods with epic sets of their high-energy tunes on tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Flogging Molly formed in Los Angeles in the mid-'90s around frontman Dave King, a veteran punker looking to incorporate Celtic elements into his music. He recruited several players and together they began performing weekly at Molly Malone's Irish pub, where Irish-influenced punk tracks like "Devil's Dance Floor" and "Black Friday Rule" quickly earned them a following. As their popularity grew the band gave themselves a name inspired by the pub, making their debut as Flogging Molly in 1997 with the live album Alive Behind the Green Door. The band's rise continued in 2000 with their official studio debut album Swagger, a critical and commercial success that landed on the Billboard 200 and received a 5-star rating from Punknews.org. Since then the group has become the poster band for Irish punk, releasing four more whiskey-soaked albums --including two that topped the US Indie charts -- and becoming a festival favorite with stints on The Vans Warped Tour and the Rock Against Bush project. Beloved for their powerhouse sound, electric showmanship, and dapper stagewear, Flogging Molly continue to treat lucky ticket buyers to an walloping live experience on their unforgettable tours.
Rating: 5 out of 5by Jurgle on 2009-10-22Sound Academy - Toronto Rating: 5 out of 5 Flogging Molly - Awesome live show
by bcomp on 2009-10-22Sound Academy - TorontoI have seen Flogging Molly a couple of time now and they never disappoint. Part of what makes the show is the band's interaction with the audience. They always take the time to stop between songs and talk to the audience and crack jokes. Even if you are not a huge fan of their music you will be a fan of the band by the end of the show. Plus the crowd really gets into the show which adds to the energy.

by DutchCheese on 2009-10-21Elements Night Club - KitchenerFrankly, the show kicked my ass. The opening acts were great, especially Inward Eye, the rocked. Flogging Molly did what they do best, bring an unbelievable energy to the venue, getting everyone up and moving. Black Friday Rule was awesome, starting off as a solo acoustic version, then the band coming back on stage to finish the song in a harder fashion.
