About
Florist on Tour
Created around multi-talented Emily Sprague, Florist is an indie/alternative group making 23 stops around the United States, accompanied by Marc Merza, on their Summer 2022 tour. Founded by lead singer/guitarist Sprague, the core band also features Rick Spataro on bass guitar, keyboards, synthesizer and backing vocals; Jonnie Baker on guitar, keyboards and synthesizers; and Felix Walworth on drums. Florist first appeared in 2013 with their six-song debut EP We Have Been This Way Forever, and they've been creating music ever since. In 2014 they released another six-song EP, 6 Days of Songs. The group then signed with Double Double Whammy in 2015 and released Holdly, a five-song EP featuring tracks such as "Vacation" and "Unholy Faces." The album was a success, putting Florist on Stereogum's list of the 50 Best New Bands of 2015. The album also earned them the title of "Band to Watch" by Stereogum. In 2016 they released their full-length debut album The Birds Outside Sang, which featured 11 songs, including "Dark Light," "Rings Grow" and "1914." This hypnotic album was ranked at No. 34 on Noisey's "100 Best Albums of 2016." Continuing their epic music creation, their next albums included If Blue Could be Happiness in 2017, an ambient synth album Water Memory in 2017, Mount Visions in 2018 and Emily Alone in 2019, which made No. 27 on Pitchfork's list of the 50 Best Albums of 2019.
Florist Live in Concert
Formed in New York in 2013, Florist features a subtle acoustic guitar with the whispery melancholy voice of Emily Sprague. Listed in the alternative/indie/folk genre, Florist breaks through and can be stationed in a relatively new genre of lo-fi rock. The heartfelt rhythm and soothing lyrics can be felt from the front and back of the stage; leaving the audience with a tranquil and serene experience. In a review of Florist's concert at Club Dada in 2017 by Radio UTD, their set was described as a "calming and reassuring" experience. Reaching mainstream culture, an instrumental piece of Florist's track "Thank You," from their 2016 album The Birds Outside Sang was featured in Beyoncé's Netflix concert movie Homecoming. Florist released a new single in 2022 titled "Sci-fi Silence," a love song about mysterious and ambiguous forces that lead loved ones together. They continue to make music with their 2022 self-titled album announcement featuring the single "Red Bird Pt. 2 (Morning)."
