IDA MCBETH IN CONCERT:

Jazz icon Ida McBeth returned to the spotlight in 2014 following a two-year illness that kept her from her weekly performances in Kansas City – a tradition she had maintained for 17 years. At her comeback show at the city’s renowned Blue Room jazz club McBeth left no doubt that she was healthier and more in command of her powerful voice than ever, wowing fans with pitch-perfect renditions of everything from jazz standards and show tunes to R&B ballads and gospel. The response was so overwhelming that she’s taking up residence at the club, treating fans to an unforgettable night of music at the Blue Room every month. Ticket buyers can expect to be transported to jazz’s golden age as McBeth fills the room with her sultry voice, diva style, and time-honored showmanship.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Kansas City-born Ida McBeth was introduced to vocal legends like Nancy Wilson and Sarah Vaughan at an early age by her mother. She sang in church and school choir during her youth, and at age 16 made her professional debut. In the early ‘70s she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her singing career, and within two weeks she was performing six nights a week at a prominent Bel Air club. She continued to perform in clubs in LA and Kansas City throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s, racking up numerous honors including being named 1984’s Best Female Jazz Vocalist by the International Jazz Hall of Fame. In 1992 she made her album debut with A Gift of Song, a genre-spanning collection of jazz, soul, and R&B that showcased her skills as a song stylist. Her sophomore album Special Request followed in 1998, and in 2006 she released her highly anticipated third album Live on the Vine. Over the past three decades she remained a staple on the Kansas City jazz scene, including a 17-year residency at legendary club Jardine’s. Following a two-year hiatus due to illness, McBeth made a triumphant return to the stage in 2014, and she continues to dazzle every time she takes the stage at her Blue Room residency.
