Walle Larson warmed up the Rooftop

by Inky on 2009-08-29Winnipeg Art Gallery - Winnipeg

Walle Larson, his band and guest singer, Catherine warmed up the WAG rooftop on a chilly Thursday, August 27 evening. Walle is known for his smooth jazz and did not disappoint.

Brent Parkin as good as ever

by goldie2 on 2009-08-17Winnipeg Art Gallery - Winnipeg

The two set performance was great. Brent Parkin has always put on a good show and this was no exception. And the brass section really blasted. The venue is awesome and the intermission break was enough time to check out some of the gallery displays. Only drawback - chairs too close together for a six-foot frame body. But on the plus side there were no complaints when we moved the chairs apart.

Jazz on the Rooftop - Brent Parkin Band

by blackberry on 2009-08-15Winnipeg Art Gallery - Winnipeg

Brent Parkin, accomplished blues guitarist, gave a fantastic performance at the Winnipeg Art Gallery's Jazz at the Rooftop. A hot Winnipeg evening with a welcome breeze, on WAG's rooftop sculpture garden provided the perfect venue. Brent Parkin and his band provided fun, energy, tons of talent and great music.

    Remarkable Evening!

by MrsG on 2009-08-14Winnipeg Art Gallery - Winnipeg

Considering that the evening is toted as a Jazz evening, I was a bit surprised to be eating chips and corn on the cob in my dinner dress. My husband and I thought a nice salmon would have been more appropriate. Aside from the rude catering supervisor who told a group of people going back for seconds that "this isn't really an all you can eat buffet" the dinner portion seemed to be worth the extra $30. As for the actual concert. What a great time we had! I think the Brent Parking Band (which usually consists of 3 people - Brent plus a drummer and bassist) is more blues rock than jazz, but they squeaked in with the addition of 3 horn players (1 baritone sax, 1 tenor sax and a trumpet player). My husband and I enjoy most genres of music and were not at all disappointed with the concert. I did see a few people leave and thought they must have imagined an evening of class and style - not hillbilly rock. OH well. For the most part it was a great evening and I would definitely go again!

Rain and cold have no fear!!!!

by Frances on 2009-07-17Winnipeg Art Gallery - Winnipeg

For my first time at the WAG it was a little disappointing too cold to have the jazz on the roof top as planned. But the music made up for it above and beyond! It was a perfect night with new original songs, some old favorites, a three minute whistling tune that was outstanding and even a suprise performance from a master WSO violinist! Well worth it and I look forward to the next WAG jazz performance.

Jazz was alright inside, not on the rooftop...

by DeedeeC1 on 2009-07-15Winnipeg Art Gallery - Winnipeg

It was a cool evening, so the Ron Paley Band played indoors. I do enjoy jazz, but was not aware that it was a brass band. It was enjoyable for a brass band, and Rob McConnell was quite entertaining!!!
